DIY eBay 150mw Blu-Ray Kit

Hi, I'm new to this message board and would like to say hi. I have a blu-ray pointer I bought from Justin from neolasers but I ended up breaking it trying to mod it, the copper coiled wire fell off and the wire broke that goes into the tip, I think it supplies the laser the negative side of the battery. Anyways, I found this kit on eBay which claims to come with a 150mw blu-ray laser for $33, but you have to build the driver yourself. Has anyone bought from this guy?

I haven't but it's a basic driver, should be ok. Get one off Ryan (rkcstr), or Dr. Lava (microdrive pre-set type), read a bit (lots o tutorials) on here and you'll be ok. I built my first over a month ago and I'd never soldered anything till then. ;)
 
I'd rather recommend buying from the suppliers here in the forum (B/S/T section) - that's most likely cheaper, better support and quality (the bit about "I've left the micro PCB on" makes me a bit wary).
 
Yeah you can get a fully built 120 mW PHR diode module for $30-40 here. The 150mW advertised on eBay is just an over powered PHR diode. If you want longevity get it set to 90mW, or burning 120mW. Anything over that it wont last. Once you get comfortable with it and saved up some money, you can go higher with a 6X GGW diode @ 160-200mW (around $90 built), or an 8X BDR @ 220-325+mW (around $230 built). Then you might want a lens which will add up to 28% more mWs (around $60). Take your time, read the forum, and get some goggles.
 
Buying Pre made lasers is easy, but building one is alot more fun. Sure its tricky but it makes yours unique. I haven't tackled it just yet but I definately will be. got all the tools just need the guidance and a steady hand.
 
Yeah I agree but I really don't have the know how to build my own, I mean I probably could figure it out but I don't want to waste money on breaking things. I am thinking about buying a nice premade one from IgorT.
 
totally understand where you're coming from, but accidental breakage is part of learning. Experience doesnt come cheap. And I'm a noob :(

Yeah I understand, I actually tinkered around with the bluray pointer I got from neolasers and got it to work again, just a little soldering got it fixed.
 
I purchased one from him once. I put it together, and it worked good at first. Then as I was turning up the POT, the diode fried. =( Now the beam is weaksauce. I kept it though because it does look cool, but it has no power anymore. If you like, I can send you a pic of the completed laser.

yeah that would great if you could. Other peoples work always inspires me to create a thing of beauty (or uber coolness) of my own
