If diode is destroyed, will laser not work at all?

Am worried my issues is not battery, but diode as i may've used for more than a minute!

1. first try another battery!

2. f that won't work it's probably your driver or your diode. (More background information would be helpfull!!)

3. Disconnect diode and test the driver with a tesload if thats works it is the diode that is toasted. REMEMBER before you re-attach a new diode short the driver output leads! as a voltage spike can kille your new diode!

problem solved!

greetings,,

What more background info would you like?

The most technical thing i think i can do is change a battery as i've no expertise, knowledge or tools.

Ok, the guy in electrical store say that my battery is ok!

If it was the diode, wouldn't the laser just not work?

If your battery is fine and your driver is fine, it must be the diode. If its emitting a dim glow that means you've LED'd it. That means its giving even over driven to the point of failure or overheated. The heat could be due to a prolonged duty cycle or soldering damage while making connections. Either way your question is kinda self answering. If a diode is broken will the laser not work. I always thought if something is broken that means it does not work

The laser does work fine for 20 or so minutes, extremely more powerful than other 200mw lasers i've had!
then after a bit of prolonged use, i.e. burning, it starts to fade to a dim dot! Thats on a battery thats fully charged. If i then charge battery again for 20 mins until the charger light goes green, its ok again for a while!

The laser is brand new from o-like.

woudn't that mean that the battery is simply discharged O.o 20 minutes on is quite a while. And some cheap batteries may just last that long. ;)

Well i probably mean 20 minutes of use spasmodically, not 20 mins straight!

If i am burning & i hold the laser on for a while, say periods of 30-45 seconds on, it happens then too!

I used the same battery with my old laser, the transformable 200mw from o-like & the laser never dimmed then!

Are you ruling out issuesswith the driver & diode?

I think you should contact o-like's customer support. They should replace it.

This lase is a replacement for a laser i sent back. I don't want to send back if its just a fried battery.

I'm just wanting to know if it is a diode or driver problem, would the laser work at all or for even a few minutes with ok power! I thought if anything within the laser eg. diode or driver, it wouldn't work at all !

Try to find another battery like this one if it does the same send it back.

If you were prepared to wait a little for shipping, LarryDFW's charger is a great little 18650 charger and very well priced ($9 - £6); we get ripped off for everything in the UK. It charges to 4.2V everytime (so far :D ) His Samsung batteries aren't bad either. (about half those amazon prices)

18650 Batteries & Chargers

Apart from that, X-TAR WP2 USB charger (about £12) or Ultrafire WF-139 rapid charger (£20) aren't bad choices i.m.o

contact LarryDFW here on the forum he could provide you with great batteries and chargers :)

Thanks, i ordered from Larry.

I was wondering if by just once putting the battery in the wrong way round could have done something? I think i may've done as i always forget which way up & there are no + or -.

hmmm., if the driver lacks the reverse polarity protection you might have fried something. But as it still working - even for a little while.. I can't be sure...
