Okay, no, not really. But looking at ebay descs lately it's starting to get ridiculous.

LASER BEAM EXPANDER 30X MELLES GRIOT FOR 532nm rare!!!! - eBay (item 250593494776 end time Mar-15-10 18:39:47 PDT)

The seller's amazing claim is going to change the world:

"THINK ABOUT, WHEN I PUT THIS EXPANDER TO THE END OF ONE OF MY LASERS LIKE A 400MW I CAN THEN KNOW THAT I AM MULTIPLING THE POWER BY THIRTY, SO MY 400MW JUST BECAME 12,000 MW. PRETTY AWESOME HUH?"

:wtf:

If he's right, we should probably notify the folks running the LHC. Everything needs to be rethought. Laws of conservation of matter have just gone out the window.

... I wonder if someone could buy it and then dispute it as 'seller not as described'.

Anyways. I usually keep this stuff to myself, but I figured folks would likely find this at least amusing.

Eh, just because a person has something, it doesn't mean that they know what they have. Wow, that was a convoluted sentence xD But yeah, ebay isn't really the place for accuracy.

You forgot something important.
"IT IS LITTERALLY MAGICAL"
Now this explains everything, a magical beam expander! It doesn't need the laws of physics, it just does stuff because it can.

Seriously though, what an idiot.

Sure. But maybe it's a good thing he's getting rid of his lasers: Someone who knows so little about, well, directed beams of energy -- shooting 400mW lasers "across parking lots and across town".

Or maybe he's just trying to sell to a sucker.

What a freaking idiot.
But what annoys me is I swear I have seen this seller's pictures on LPF recently. I'm pretty sure he was trying to prove he was respectable be showing all the laser he apparently had. The pictures were this guy's profile picture (on ebay) and the 4th one in the item listing.
Then again I may be wrong and imagining this, but I am adamant those pictures had been posted on LPF.

Interesting. I wonder if we'll get a response soon then, insisting that his beam expander *really does* magically increase the power of a laser.

EDIT: Byrnz, you weren't imagining it. He's selling the same beam expander for $400 here, except on Ebay he claims it "lights a match across a parking lot", here he only claims it "lights a match from 10 feet away"

(Chad, you'll probably read this, and you probably should edit your ebay description. Your beam expander does not, and cannot increase the power of a laser. All a beam expander is, is a focusing lens. )

ROTFLMAO !!! ..... seriously, LOL !

First time in absolute, that i see someone that say that "beam expander 30X" means "multiply the power by 30" .....

Don't know if it's just a joke, someone that knows nothing about lasers, or something to classify in the "epic fails" range .....

(sorry for the spamming, but, really, sometimes these things are just too big for resist :p :D)

Just read his eBay Listing...

I asked him a basic question....

Are you a Moron????
You CAN NOT increase the Power of a Laser with a
Beam Expander...
Stating so is Fraudulent...
There is a Laser Forum that is discussing your Total lack of
knowledge on Lasers...

I'll see if he responds..... I won't be holding my breathe...

@aryantha... nice find... I also thought I had seen that pic before...

you mean this one??

as shown in this thread....

I asked this via ebay.....

Dear tropicalasers,

Please explain to me how this device (A simple lens assembly) can completely defy the laws of physics??

30x expansion of an optical beam does not boost the power.

to make it easier to comprehend, your statement is like saying that adding a spoiler to a car makes the engine produce more horsepower.

The ebay listing is removed now.

item is not listed anymore I think he got your message...

All you need to do is report the Fraudulent Listing to eBay....
and why.....

Jerry.
I was just getting ready to buy that. Now I'll never see 7W out of my Dilda.:yabbmad:

Gosh darn it all to he!!:tsk:
I could tell some story's of the "misinformation" I've seen on e-bay.
A 1250V He-Ne W/ PSU listed as (and under) Toy
Gutted-out Argon's listed as He-Ne's
And on and on............

Gutted-out Argon's listed as He-Ne's
And on and on............[/SIZE]

If this can console you, i've also found an ND:YAG assembly listed as "small He-Ne, unknown, without PSU", one time, the last year ..... LOL

..... not speaking about non-laser devices, sometimes
