Damaged Lens

after further testing i found out that the lens is un use able. So we go for plan B which is the use of another lens from a cheap laser. But there is a new problem with that solution. the cheap 5mw laser has a pen shaped host & i tried every thing to open the head/tip of the laser (where the lens is) but with no luck !! :(
any ideas how to open it up ??

Pen shaped host (Very common)

Those can be pretty hard to remove - i suggest placing the silver colored part in a vice, and rocking the black part loose... it seems there are plenty of toolmarks on the tip already, so not much to worry about in the vise!

Sort of off topic here... but I have some acetone here and I would not DARE put it on a lens. The problem is acetone will eat through acrylic and some cheap lasers like this one "may" use an acrylic lens. Are all DPSS lenses glass? I really am having a hard time beliving they are.

Also another question would be. Would an acrylic lens be composed of some other type of acrylic not prone to acetone eating through it. I understand some very high powered green lasers can be cleaned with acetone but these optics need to be glass.

Drill a hole in a block of wood that is slightly smaller than the diameter of the head. Cut the block in half through the hole. Put the wood blocks in a vise. Put the laser head in the now smaller hole. Tighten the vise and rock the pen back and forth. This should not damage the head.

after getting a vise i opened the laser up but the lens is still trapped inside ! i tried every thing buts nuthing came make it come off

any ideas how to get it out ?

As qumefox suggests, the slot you see in the lens is where you would put a screwdriver so you can unscrew it.

Just make sure you don't scratch the lens in the process or you will be right back where you started.

I use a small spanner or a sturdy tweezers to turn the lens.

Sometimes, the brass nut has threadlocking compound on it, as well.
