Here are a few recent shots from my 55gal marine tank. Lighting is 20,000k redium but the camera SUCKS!!!, can't macro shot well, and overexposes no matter what. Enjoy!

(sorry I could not get a better picture of the six line wrasse, he runs when he sees the camera)

Mike, try turning off the lights in the room if possible and remove the flash.

That was without flash and the ceiling fan light was off. That is my GFs craptastic camera. It really has trouble with those bulbs in particular. I might throw in the 14,000k for tomorrow and reshoot. (can't turn the lights off now and swap the bulbs)

Awesome, I've always wanted a nice aquarium.

I have a betta fish now. Startin' out small. I don't know if that really even counts as "having a fish", but he's cool. His name is Ernie.

Whenever daguin gets back around here, you'll have a fellow aquarium enthusiast. I know he has posted once or twice about his previous and future aquariums, you might try searching for them. I seem to remember him even having a fish that is now living at Sea World once it got too big.

Neat, thanks for sharing. For what is the 14000k bulb better? What wattage?

The bulbs are 150 watt. I was implying that the 14,000k bulb would be better to use to take pictures with because my GF's camera overexposes with the 20,000k bulbs.

In general the lower the K (kelvin) rating the more green/yellow the bulb shows. This is FAR better for coral growth! But it leaves this awful murky tint. You would have to use actinic lighting (usually T-5 bulbs) to supplement the "actinic pop". Although the 20,000k bulb will produce slower growth, supplemental lighting is not needed because of how far it is towards ultra-violet.

14,000k seems to be the "middle man" to enthusiasts. It is just the right amount of blue/yellow/green. The 20,000k is much much more blue than the 14,000k. The particular brand I am using doesn't wash out the tank with just blue, it gives a really nice color blend similar to the Phoenix 14,000k bulb

So 14000k is better for growth, and 20000k is better for appearance?

In all honesty 6700k is the best for growth. It all comes down to owners prefrence. Some will use a 6700k and supplement 420nm (actinic) while others will use 14,000k,18,000k, or 20,000k bulbs and need no supplements. Every combination looks different. I have only mentioned Metal Haldies so far. There are a few other lighting options as well. Flourecent (T-5, T-12) or power compact.

LOL, current apartment complex limit is ~30 gal or so. Maybe in a couple of years? :D

Thanks for the offer, though. :thanks:
