crowd scanning if done correctly with all the safeties in place is relaively safe. i assume at a venue of this magnitude that true professionals were used. but i honestly don't know.

I would assume they observed MPE guidelines there, these are pretty big events and under good supervision here in the netherlands. Probably not comfortable looking directly into those beams, but not dangerous either.
As for ear damage: dance/trance events are known to push the volume up pretty high here... you could easily damage your hearing by visiting these things frequently and standing close to speakers. Most of the staff working at these events will be wearing ear protection, and its getting more and more common for visitors to do the same.
