Crimson Trace diode swap, anyone tried this?

Yes I see red just fine for anything within about 30 yards. And no I wasn't kidding. All the major approved sights I've seen (us sold) are all under 5mW, I think my sig registers at about 3.7mW last I saw. Doesn't mean you can't fashion one for yourself that's greater, who are we kidding? It's LPF!

Anything farther I use irons or a wide area scope for. I'm mostly a handgun guy though. Rifles are fun, but a bit excessive for a lot of things. My .44 is great for most anything, specials in the house have had an excellent stopping power along with .357 mag. And .44 mag for close hunting.

Lasers are excellent for quck close aiming at non eye level, I agree. but I trust the irons a lot more for anything greater than about 10 yards without a very well aligned sight- in which case I'd still prefer irons and some cover. With practice you can level a firearm in the blink of an eye. It's all just dependent on the situation you're in frankly.

Ok I good I thought you were implying that there were some type of different regulations for weapon mounted lasers that was different the our handhelds.
My eyes must be bad because when it's sunny I can't see the 5mW red sights I have.

The best laser sight would be a green in the 70-100mW range, the osram diode has been perfect. The m140's in my guns are almost asinine but we tend to go a little overboard on here sometimes. I'll post pictures sometime this week of the m140 i built into the UTAS15 12 gauge

What I do for my lasers is set them at around 20 yards but it is good out to 30 and in at 10 yards. Thats because I mount it either below or above the barrel so that it should only vary in elevation. Then you just aim at the center and it will hit a little high or low but it still hits!

I tried doing the handgun lasers and I actually don't like them. I only use them on larger firearms. The barska I had on my glock sucked since the you can't really clamp down on the polymer frame it would wind up moving around.

Believe it or not my vector is a pistol lol I got my tax stamp approved though to make it an SBR I am just waiting for Kriss to get their stock kits back in stock!

The Crimson Trace grip is tiny. I wouldn.t mess with it.
Going to a new diode and driver in that space and with
the cells available -- Forget it.
Those reds are made for dark confrontations.
Bright green marks your location anyway.

I agree. and frankly most gunfights start at less than 10 yards, so there's not much reason. I have a sig sight on my .40 Smith, and it works great as long as its clamped down fairly tight. I can't stand glocks, too small for me. (doesn't mean they're a bad weapon though I just prefer s&w's handling lately) those new osrams are perfect, though I frown at the power requirements. the red only takes 1.5V and lasts forever. I have yet to change it. the Osrams I highly doubt I could say the same thing. they need tons of voltage so if its on a rifle, not too bad, but on a HG its not too practical...yet.

to the OP. sorry for the derail. I hope this goes well for you, but frankly...I don't think its really all that worth it in most cases. I trust my scopes and irons more than a laser. practice shooting can't be replaced by a simple pointer. its more intended to be an aid for your aim, not a replacement. I generally only use the laser honestly at the range as a training aid.
