Also, I think the sonar II from wicked it something ridiculous like $2000 for 60mW of pulsed 405nm light. I could build someone a CW 405nm laser with close to 200mW for around $400.

The Spartan is a 473nm BLUE laser. BLU_RAY lasers are 405nm. They are a violet/purple NOT blue.

Hi dave, you'r right (of course). I was only trying to give an info to the more general question of JerzyDevil and to the first answer of artix who, on the other hand, has not stated that "all" blueray pointers are pulsed.
For what I know, DL manufactured GP lasers (now looking discontinued), while they are now producing BP and RP.

Like SuperDave said, I was just talking specifically about the 405nm lasers :D
 
I see they're making the blue lasers pulsed (Dragon BP, Aurora...) .Perhaps because the instability of the DPSS process? :-/ But most of them are CW, and I have yet to see a DIY build with a pulse circuit.

Yea, but you're not, you're probably ask something like $600 :D The sonar 2 uses a 2x burner diode...what a waste.WL is unaware of the 803T diode, or the $270 6x burner on ebay :D
 
They aren't REALLY more powerful. They have a higher peak from the pulse, but the average output isn't too crash hot.

I'd just stick with CW

Unless you are talking about research lasers. That's just because they use so much power that they can only do one little pulse before having to recharge the capacitors :)

I'd build 'em for $400... but everyone is happy with 100mW for now so no one is really asking ;D
