You also have the problem that different wavelengths refract differently through the same lensing.. As rhd demonstrated with the diffraction grating. It would be hard to focus and multiple wavelengths the same amount with the same lens.
 





Chromatic abberation can be fixed (mostly) with a pair of lenses (achromatic doublet). As mentioned, I'd be more worried about the different emitter locations.
 
Well the reds and blues are usable, so that would only be a $100 diode. heh.
