Laser Light Solutions (self described Leading Laser System Integrator) announces integral 5 Watt 450nm direct diode system
Quote:
. . . designed for use in a broad range of applications including surgery, forensics, advanced displays, and optical pumping of Ti:Sa and dye lasers
Laser Light Solutions Releases Turn-Key, 5-watt Blue Laser Diode System
Quote:
The compact 8800-Blue laser system delivers the 450 nm emission wavelength, which matches optical absorptions critical for biomedical and scientific applications. Additionally, the direct diode laser design offers end users reliable and efficient operation over a broad temperature range, as well as high-speed direct modulation capability.

It will most likely have exactly the same issue with other high powered diodes - beam specs so bad you'd might as well use them as flashlights.

diode? a 5w blue diode? thats crazy. according to the laser brightness tool, it'll be about as bright as a 425mw green laser

Thats scary, where can you point that at without starting a fire or blinding someone? I'd rather just have a gun for self defense. Leave this one for industrial applications only.

It is equipped with an easy to use touch screen for full intuitive control over all of the laser system parameters. Standard features also include a USB interface for ease of integration and remote control, along with built in electrical and thermal protection.

Sounds like a lot more than a LD that we could use

It's a complete fiber coupled system, that makes it usefull in a lot of ways for research.
