This is probably one of the rarest production lasers out there today, only 9 of them were made to my knowledge. Cost $49,800 new... Still working on getting this running. Just realized the problem was the 5V PS was dead... :P This laser is one of the only ones out there that doubles the output directly from the diode with no other crystals in between. All photos are copyright me, so please don't post them elsewhere...

Can't wait to see this beast in action.  I'm a fan of the deep blue lasers, and I'm sure that this one will be one of my favorites.  I love the high pressure mercury vapor emission line at 436nm, such a beautiful royal blue.  It would be fanastic to see something close to that line in a coherent form.  :)

woot! Post 473!

Direct injection diodes? Interesting!

I'd love to see that colour (Internet is capped ATM tho, so I have to live with 64/64 speeds ATM :( )

It's not direct injection. This is a doubled 860nm diode. It is very rare to directly double a diode because of problems with beam mode, shape, etc.... Also, the material to do the conversion is very difficult to work with.

I got this from a friend who worked at Coherent. This is the 1st prototype they made. Denoted by the S/N Proto 1 The only people who used them were IBM and some bio tech company which is out of business.
