Re: CNI GB Round 2: It is Time

Well, I guess that's that about my plans getting a decent 473nm beamer then...

I'm starting to be sceptical about the 15 people count for 589nm 80mW. I reckon sticking to 10 buyers for $650 wouldn't be too bad either (am willing to adjust my previous "price limit" statements)...but it's crucial for me to know how much extra will I have to pay for the shipping...not to mention potential difficulty with the paypal payment procedure.

Heck, I'm even still waiting for my 532nm 800mW monster from a previous GB organised by bloompyle...:(

Too many hiccups at the moment as I see it.:undecided:

Oh the dreams of a 589nm but honestly its seems way over complicated i want one for sure but lets just get it sorted so many options is the problem, reduce the choices and ppl will have to make up their mind do you want a yellow or not ..hell yeah I'm over red, green, blue and Violet

Re: CNI GB Round 2: It is Time

I will email Ava as soon as possible to find out final prices on PGL-III-C 532's and GLP 532 and 593.5's

Unfortunately with that thinking, people like me can't get anything :(

What I'd love is a 473 that runs on 10440 batts personally. That fat CR2 host... just no...

Besides, the "0th" CNI GB by DJNY/Norbyx was a 589nm GB for the most part.

ALSO! If someone really wanted a 589, it'd probably be their choice from the start.

Though, as far as 80mW 473's... they're still cheaper elsewhere guys.

Re: CNI GB Round 2: It is Time

I have thought about reducing options, but I reject it every time. Why? Because it is no trouble, and it shouldn't take away any people who seriously want a 589. I think we can get the discount.

On to updates. I have emailed Ava and asked for an estimation of shipping and insurance costs based on an order quantity of 15 PGL-III-C lasers. This should give me a good idea. I am also going to look at shipping options that fit a PGL-III-C laser to see what the best option is both economically and safety-wise. I also asked ava about 532 PGL-III-C prices as well as 593.5nm GLP price. She should get back to me by later tonight and when I get an update I will post it here.

After I get out of class I will be emailing each individual who has expressed interest in this GB(those who have PM'd me, I won't bother you more.) to get an idea of:

1. Continued Interest.
2. Feasible Time Frames.
3. Possible Payment Options.

Please know that all money orders, checks, etc that I get will be examined thoroughly by my bank before being deposited. This is as much for my safety as it is for yours.....more for mine though. For international orders I am going to TRY to make Paypal available, but it will be somewhat tricky so have some patience on that aspect.

I want to thank everyone for their patience as I figure this Group Buy leading thing out. I assure you we will try to make this end soon.

Thanks,
Isaac

From what I've seen so far, you're doing great, man.

It looks like you're putting a lot of effort into organising this particular GB the way that everyone can get a satisfactory feeling already.

Back to topic: if I can do paypal as an international buyer, I'd be getting very close to that $650 deal...but will wait for the final details, specifically regarding the shipping charges.

Keep doing what you're doing 'cause you're doing it well.

Re: CNI GB Round 2: It is Time

Hey WBS,
You are being very methodical and that is good. Take your time and doing everything how you want to do it! Looking forward to your next post(s) to get to the next step. Thanks again

Re: CNI GB Round 2: It is Time

First of all thanks for all your work, I'm aware running a GB isn't simple.
My situation is very similar to gismo's: I want the 589nm 80mW, preferrably at the 15pc price. I'm willing to consider the 50mW for the 10pc price, but not really decided yet.
I'll PM you shortly to see if we can work something out for shipping/payment due to me being international. I have a lot of questions, hope I'm not asking too much..

-Is the piece count per wavelength or per power? Might be easier to get 15 yellows than 15 80mW's.

-1pc:
PGL-III-C-589-50mW/Unit USD455.00
10pcs:
PGL-III-C-589-50mW/Unit USD560.00
This seems inverted. Would you mind checking with Ava to be sure?

-Do all PGL-III-C hosts have the turn on delay? Since they're made to order can I ask for mine not to have the delay? (FDA isn't an issue here)

-Will they have shutters, focus rings or neither?

Edited to add a very important question - What definition will be used to determine if a laser is underspec? Peak power? Average power (how long should the test be)? Minimum power?

Edited to add another one - what's the duty cycle for the 589nm 80mW?

As for a close date, IMHO it should be as far away as possible. End of next month would be great.

As a general rule of thumb they all have the turn on delay, as far as I'm aware its built into the laser driver and cannot be removed. (and probably shouldn't but that's my opinion)

They come with an aperture shutter by default. The focus ring is a add-on that replaces the shutter on some models if requested, but as it takes its place as I've not seen a model with both. I just use a beam expander and get the shutter, they work better than the focus rings anyway I'm quite sure. (due to size and focal restrictions, and they're easier to care for)

As for the specs I get a chuckle that everyone says their 80mW laser is over-spec. Actually its on spec...if you order an 80mW that means that that is what it is guaranteed to put out, not its maximum output. For example my Aries-150 puts out more than 150mW and is guaranteed to put out more than 150mW and not fall below that point for more than an acceptable range of time under normal operation. (unless the batteries are weak or something) It's completely normal to see a laser doing more than the number it was binned under, except in the case of a labby, then its usually RMS over 4 hours + or - whatever spec percentage of the power that it was sold under. (i.e. 150mw +/- ___% over __hours)

There are exceptions, but those are the way they are typically sold in my experience. The duty cycle on these isn't specified on the spec sheet, but I believe they are I believe 2min on 1min off or something like that. WBS can probably ask Ava about these. Hope this helps, feel free to correct me as well. This is just my take on the matter.

Re: CNI GB Round 2: It is Time

Actually I just got done emailing Ava regarding the following items:

1. Time Delay - possible to remove?
2. If 10pcs discount can be had if one or more of the lasers purchased is a different power of the same wavelength. Additionally if GLP's of the same wavelength can be discounted after the 10 orders have been reached.
3. How they determine if a laser isn't performing up to spec. Offered several situations to clarify the potential gray areas we are confused about - i.e. average vs specific, how long guaranteed(how many minutes on), etc.
4. To confirm PGL532 prices.

Will update upon receipt of reply. Thanks for the kind words guys, it means a lot!

Re: CNI GB Round 2: It is Time

Time delay is... :D

My 561 and 589 both don't have it.

Thats kinda cool, suprised you managed to get one without!

I've never seen a PGL without it before. I like having the delay so it's compliant...but at the same time I do find it annoying for some things.

Re: CNI GB Round 2: It is Time

Well hopefully Ava goes for it. If not I will reference your lasers that lack it and see if she will come around.
