Hi i have recently purchased a 5000mw blue/violet laser pointer and am an amateur in lasers in general but i would like to know what type of glasses i could get for like 20.00 usd i need something that fits over glasses and works for 5000mw 405nm does any one know of decent glasses that i might be able to use for this? Thanks in advanced. also I created an account to ask this question so i don't know if this is the right section to post. and if i need to be an active community member to get my answer i will do that.

First, your laser will not be 5 watts. But, you will still need glasses. Check out the link for the uvex ones in my signature. Those will work and are only $8.

To answer your second question, this would usually go in the safety & legal issues section.

Welcome to the hobby. (BTW, where did you buy the laser and for how much).

Well is probably 5000mw, but if your going to spend that much money on a First laser you need spend a fair bit on a set of high quality googles. Especially at that power. A cheap pair would have a high probability of getting a hole burnt through in a very short period of time on direct exposure to the beam. 5 watt laser is very powerful something to be very careful with not a time to go cheap on googles.

Wat? You know that unit is about as far from handheld as you can get. It will require 3 phase power and water cooling, and probably weighs on the higher end of 60kg or so. It's also not 405nm.

This is on the oposite end if "laser pointer"

How can you afford a 1500$ system but not more than 20$ on glasses?

Wow the apparent power input is 7.28kW and the output is 5W :D

The laser requires 3 phase 208 VAC, 35 Amperes.

Big boy stuff going on here :P
At the moment I will stay with my little balloon poppers

somehow i don't think this is going to be a happening thing, how many people have access to 3 phase power? .a few but not many.

well, by pointer i meant something with a beam that i could hook up to my cnc machine for milling plastics and engraving some materials depending on what it burns through and what it sets on fire. my goal is to have the best home made cnc machine for an up and coming contest and other people are using lasers too.

i spent alot of money of shipping after which i need to spend on the rest of my set up i have 5,000usd left to spend but the motor controller board and axis im using is 4,500 and my laser protection shielding is 50.00 per sq '' so i have a need for 6 pairs of glasses and i cand spend more than 120.00

Should of gone with a co2 laser. Much higher power and typical clear safety glasses will block it out.
