Re: GB: 3.5W 445nm diode information/giveaway

I don't have a source picked out yet, I'll do that closer when it's time to buy. The prices are always changing with brand new diodes :p

Dave has a decanner tool, and he could probably decan it without harming it, but it would have to be sent to someone else after that (Blord?) for macrophotos.

Re: GB: 3.5W 445nm diode information/giveaway

I do not have a good price on diodes but I am look. Did some more testing got 6.5W at max 4.7A. a good power looks to be around 4.2A 6.3w:drool:

BTW, Rick Trent may have one we can buy. I spoke with him a while back about buying one of these myself and I'm pretty sure he had them back then for around $500 or a little more. I think I did ask DTR about these and don't recall ever getting a response from him (that would be strange too because he's the best about responding). Do you have a source picked out yet? Anticipated price for one of these? I'd really like to see what's in the can on this one. Any way you could de-can it without ruining it? I can't imagine how they have stuffed enough business mix into a 9mm can to get this output unless it's just a tiny bit more than the current 9mm and just overdriven and run close to its margins.

Re: GB: 3.5W 445nm diode information/giveaway

good to know. I eventually am going to stick one of these in my dominator, but I plan to run it at a much lower current. 4W safely from 1 diode with a very long life would make me very happy. tired of having diodes die.

Just curious, how many 445nm diodes have you had that died? FWIW 3A is the maximum rated current for these diodes and they produce nearly 5W at that power level. At 3A you should definitely have a diode that lasts a long time and you will get your money's worth in power.

Re: GB: 3.5W 445nm diode information/giveaway

I've had two of the current 9mm diodes die on me, at about 2.5A. one lasted a while and then degraded some, the other lasted only about 5 minutes total before LEDing

Re: GB: 3.5W 445nm diode information/giveaway

If this GB doesn't go anywhere soon I'm going to close it. It wouldn't be fair to hold people to contributions they said they would make a month ago :p

Re: GB: 3.5W 445nm diode information/giveaway

I think ricktrent has given a basic overview of the New 9mm diode and its output which may slow down or stop others from putting in from now on since they have a fair idea of the output, I really thought this GB was going to take off!

Re: GB: 3.5W 445nm diode information/giveaway

Does anyone know if Nichia even makes the old generation NDB7875s anymore? I would guess that they don't and it's only a matter of time until all new laser projectors use these diodes.(obviously sooner rather than later)
