The reason people are probably saying the touchscreens are crap is because most of the cheap ones only use resistive screens. This means you've actually got to apply a small bit of pressure to the screen to trigger it, and you can't use more than 1 finger on the screen at the same time (No pinch to zoom etc).

And some are worse than others. On my cheap china 7" tab the touchscreen is woeful, replying only if you press on it with considerable force. Its a cheepy though, and skips tracks effortlessly even when I am holding it and placing pressure on the screen with the other hand (it ignores non intentional presses).

A capacitive screen (like my ipad) works heaps better, I only need to brush across it to skip tracks (using a music player as an example), and accidentally leaning on it (like when I've had one to many bevvies) has me confused as to why the thing is going into artist select mode when I am on my "favourites" and tapping repeatedly on my next choice without any success (the capacitance between my middle forarm and my figertip is too great so the ipad only thinks I'm touching the area that selects the listing type). Capacitive touchscreens also work through thin objects. It'll register a touch through my microfiber cloth as I lay it on the screen before I close the folio cover.

The China tabs have one thing going for them - they're tough. Mine went off a balcony 3 stories up and was retrieved with just a little scuff mark on the bottom left corner. I bet the ipad wouldn't have survived. It (the china tab) bounced off downstairs balcony rail, and landed end up on the concrete. The little china tab still kept wifi connectivity with the stereo at the party and kept the music going while it was retrieved. Steal for $99! :)

BTW Things, this post has been sitting on my pc for 11 days. I forgot to press the go button ;) Guess my PC gets good uptimes :)

Honestly I've heard good things about these Chinese android tablets.. I've thought about buying one a couple times. Obviously it would be necessary to be really observant of specs when selecting one. The way I figure, all that stuff (even the name brands) is made in China these days anyway.. it's no wonder it's cheap.
 
Agreed - even the apple ipads are made in china. They're no different, except having a stricter quality control, and having a more refined OS. My little china tab has an A8 cpu, 512 meg ram, 16Gb memory, and a SD card slot. Its got wifi, bluetooth and a spot to put a sim card if I want to use it with a cellular service.

Its a great little toy for setting up a party. I can load my entire itunes library onto the SD card (it takes up to a 64 gig card, I have a 32 in there) and the music player does IMDB so pulls the track info from the mp3, not the filename. It will easily run for about 6 hours flat chat wifi'ing music, and about 4 hours watching movies.

At home its the remote screen to my headless torrent box :)
 
OK update, I highly recommend the Dropad A8 its great. I changed the firmware right when it arrived and its very helpful. I can use wifi or use my phones internet.
