Could this also work with 2 x CR123A cells?
for high output it needs 2 cells. it works with one 18650, but at a much lower output.
if the survival laser's driver is a linear or buck driver it's gonna need the diode's vf ~4.5v plus the drivers vf to function at it's rated amps. 4.2v isn't gonna cut it. if perchance it's a /buck/boost like a flexdrive most any battery combo will do. i went to the website and it said this driver needed 2 cells. if you were able to use 2x 18650's with an extension tube you would get more runtime between battery charges than if you used the shorter cells.
@skeez - throw 2 cells into that laser if you want to see it really burn
6v would be cutting it close for full output. the cr123a's would probably run out of juice pretty quick too i think. your best bet here is to use the rechargeables.
oh when i mentioned the flexdrive i forgot to say that you couldn't use 2x 3+v batts. the flex is limited to just a 5.5v input. there are other buck/boost drives out there but i'm not sure what their input limits are.
