Chill: M140 2 Watt 445nm BURNER C6 Host






for high output it needs 2 cells. it works with one 18650, but at a much lower output.

It would be convenient to be able to use CR123A batteries in this host. Two of them is 6V. Would that be okay? I think they can have over 1000mah a piece
 
Yes the specs say to have an input voltage of 4.2 to 8.4 volts. Also, mah is just the storage capacity of the cell.
 
if the survival laser's driver is a linear or buck driver it's gonna need the diode's vf ~4.5v plus the drivers vf to function at it's rated amps. 4.2v isn't gonna cut it. if perchance it's a /buck/boost like a flexdrive most any battery combo will do. i went to the website and it said this driver needed 2 cells. if you were able to use 2x 18650's with an extension tube you would get more runtime between battery charges than if you used the shorter cells.

@skeez - throw 2 cells into that laser if you want to see it really burn

Ahh okay that makes sense. So how would two CR123A cells at 6V stack up against 7.2 or 8.4V?
 
6v would be cutting it close for full output. the cr123a's would probably run out of juice pretty quick too i think. your best bet here is to use the rechargeables.
oh when i mentioned the flexdrive i forgot to say that you couldn't use 2x 3+v batts. the flex is limited to just a 5.5v input. there are other buck/boost drives out there but i'm not sure what their input limits are.

I believe that fixed 1.8A driver has an input range of 4.2 to 8.4 volts and depending on which CR123A cells you use they could have upwards of 1000mah. If there were 2 cells would you just add the capacity?
 
skeez sorry about the hijack

i believe so. and 6v may be enough to deliver the 1.8A to the diode. but once the voltage sags just a little the driver wouldn't output the 1.8A to the diode. the diode would still lase, but with less output. you don't just need the mAh's you must also provide enough voltage to the driver to overcome it's vf (~1.5) plus the diode's vf (~4.5). gotta have them volts

I am going to have to experiment with an LPM and see let everyone know how the CR123A cells behave :) thanks!
