Cheap heatsink idea

the axiz lens will degrade because i am using a SF-AW210 Blu Ray Laser Diode. I will go like 200mw.

A aixiz lens will be fine with 200mW.
The link to the assembly Greenmechanic provided you is a nice low cost option. You should give it more consideration.

i kno it is just i cant find another diode that beats this price of 40$ in axiz module with free shipping. And also i dont want to risk breaking a 30$ diode in a vice press.

Can any one drill out like 5 nuts to fit an axiz module i will pay 5 bucks which is a lot to do what i need help to do.I dont have a drill press. :(

RYANZKWL,
If you're really in need of a heat-sink that bad, and have very little funds, I will help you out.
Send me the dimensions of the length and diameter you need the heat-sink to be.
I'll turn you one out of T6061 Al. for $10 including shipping (US)
This offer is valid only to you, as the normal fee would be $25 + shipping.
Being this is your first build, I'll help you out this once.

I'll even throw in a little Thermal Paste for the joint.
NOTE:You will have to press the Aixis into the heat-sink, IE: you will need a vice.

You bought a PHR pre-mounted in an aixiz, right? members here make some pretty bad-azz sinks and they'll fit aixiz. Also, you could get one of jayrob's lenses, unscrew the aixiz lens, and screw this one in instead.

And wow, GM giving you one hell of an offer  good peoples here :D

That's one kind offer Greenmechanic +1
LPF is certainly home to many generous members

thank you greenmechanic! it is my first build and i have little funds your are the best! i assume it costing 68-70$ just what i needed!

he what dia to fit an axiz module?

uh? The diameter of the aixiz is 12mm, but green will know what size the whole needs to be to fit the aixiz in, he just wanted to know what sort of length you wanted the heatsink to be.

Very generous of you green, +rep from me :)

The thermal resistance of a layer of air decreases if the layer gets thinner, so I would'nt be too worried about a slightly imperfect fit. A lot of years back CPU's were large and heatsinks didn't use themal paste. Now they do, and it also works for other thermal connections. Just drill a hole a bit larger and add some thermal paste/glue (depending on how permanent you want it to be).

Having a heatsink custom made is the way to go but if your on a limited budget for your build you can use commom copper plumbing fittings.
I made a few out of a 3/8 coupling and a 1/2 male adapter.
drill out the male adapter with a 29/64th drill bit and cut in half press in diode side of module. Lower module section gets soldered into the 3/8 coupling(use four strands of copper wire to keep it centered)
These work great and cost about $3.00 or less to make! If I get a chance I will post a few pics.

If anybody is interested, this is the heat-sink I ended up making for RYANZKWL
T6061 AL.@25mmX27mm
He's using it in a labbie, so he wanted a large OD
Good Luck, Ryan! Go slow and double check everything, twice! Any questions?, just PM me.
