I found this article... pretty interesting


LAGUNA BEACH, Calif. (KTLA) -- If you've always wanted blue eyes, but have brown instead, there might be something you can do to change that.

A doctor in Laguna Beach called Stroma Medical says it can use laser technology to change brown eyes to blue -- permanently -- without damaging vision.

Dr. Gregg Homer has been working on the technology for 10 years.

He claims that under the brown pigment, there is blue pigment, so essentially he burns away the brown layer permanently and have the eyes looking blue.

"Lemme burn that layer of crap off your eye with a laser".
Yeah, sounds good! :D

Why could somebody be unhappy with the color of his eyes? I mean, you never SEE them anyway! Even when I look into a mirror, it's usually before my morning coffee, so I ain't seeing sh*t anyway.

I'd understand having your eyes changeed into something wicked, nonstandard. That's badass :p Like having lasers installed into your eyeballs.

But just changing the color a little, for presumably a lot of money, sounds kind of pointless.
 
I must say its clever.

There is however no blue pigment in the eye - the blue color is caused by scattering of light and is visible if you have no pigmentation in the iris. There is a catch though: Eye color is also determined by the structure of the iris. Normally this is somewhat turbid giving you blue eyes if there is no pigmentation, but it could also result in gray eyes.

I wouldn't say that removing the pigmentation would be entirely safe: Even if the removal itself does no damage, lacking the pigmentation icreases the chance of certain cancers in the eye. This would only bring the risk up to the level of someone with naturally blue eyes, but its still an increave over leaving it alone.

It's an interesting idea, but too much of a risk for too little of a reward IMO.

If it was 100% safe... maybe:p
 
Awww... it's just removing existing pigment...

There goes my hope of indigo eyes without contacts.
 
jesus christ just use colored contacts. If you are so insecure that even your eye color bothers you.......... well than you have bigger problems than the color of your eyes. But still a very cool find.

Well there was this young man in Croatia a couple of years back who went to a simple appendix removal operation, and due to a series of doctors' mistakes he had one leg completely amputated, another immobile for the rest of his life.

Now replace the scalpel and not-so-necessary appendix with a laser and an EYE, and you've got a recipe for a lot of lawsuits and destroyed lives.

I wish somebody somewhere, in the process of forming this so called "medical procedure" or whatever, stood up and said: "Wait, what the f*** are we doing? Is this really necessary?"

5k? That's cheap for cosmetic surgery. I paid nearly that much to get my vision corrected with lasers. This procedure probably uses old vision correction equipment that has been re-purposed.
 
Yeah, 5k is pretty inexpensive for cosmetic surgery. People that want cosmetic surgery are not satisfied with contact lenses and stuffing their bras/shorts. For the most part, it's a self confidence thing, and if science can deliver what nature couldn't, I'm all for it, especially if the outcome is a positive one.

I have to disagree. I feel like it's one thing to get breast augmentation because there is only so much women can do as far as making there breasts bigger without it. But there are already colored contacts for changing eye color. This whole thing just seems unnecessary. I do agree that if something is safe and it makes a person happier than thats fine but if there are already inherently safer alternatives (in this case colored contacts) it just seems like a bad idea. just my .02
