Is there any regulations against having a laser pointer in a flight?
Is there any regulations against bringing a laser pointer to Israel?

The one I would like to bring is a 50 mW green (I think it's the same as the one DX sells. I just paid a lot more for it here in Denmark).

when i went on a plane to somewhere i hid my laser in a bag with a bunch of pens... it worked

just dont put it in your carry on

edit: and take out the batteries

So do you know if I would be allowed or not.

As I see it, there's really two quite different posibilities for what you said.
One is that it's o.k. and obviously you didn't get any trouble
The other is that it's not o.k. but they didn't see

I believe it is OK if you put it in your UNDERNEATH luggage. Do not even try to put it in your carry on. I put my WL core in the underneath, burried in some clothes, and never had a problem.

Just a thought, but let's say you GET it to Israel, then what? If they have regulations against them, and of course being as you brought it with you you end up using it and getting caught, NOW you have a legal entanglement in a foreign country ....

Let's see, fines, imprisonment, criminal activity by a foreigner, etc etc = MESSY.

Be smart - leave it at home.

Yes, that's what I am trying to find out.

I will be there for 7 weeks and would fine it awsome to have it there.
On the other hand, I really don't want to break any laws, let alone risk all kinds of punishments and problems.

Is there any easy way to find out whether or not it's legal?

Pack it in ur checked luggage, and once there ask a local cops.

If you INSIST -

I would contact the local authorities where you are staying (as suggested by R/U, however why not just do it before you go to save troubles) and let them know you were planning on bringing and/or using a laser pointer to assist in, in, oh hell I don't know, photography or to help guide the family tour (something harmless and innocent, not just to "blaze the sky") etc etc and see what they say...

Israel is something of a "hotbed" right now, and with the constantly brewing troubles in that region as well as the inevitable presence of military forces, you really, REALLY might want to think about how much MORE awesome it would be to know you've got a really cool laser at home you can mess with as SOON as you get back.

If I'm not mistaken, I believe the Israeli military utilize green lasers for short-range, "quick-point" targeting - how cool is THAT when you have one too.... *GULP*

Thank you all
The more I think about it, I am not going to bring it.

Even if there's just a tiny chance of me not being allowed to go to Israel, that would be stupid. And I am not entirely sure there isn't.

7 weeks of fun is a lot to loose on a pen.

Hey prometheus,

Regarding the law in Israel:
Any device which emits a class 3B or 4 laser to open space (not CD writers or printers for example), requires an ownership and usage permit.

If you try to bring or order such a device to Israel, they can confiscate it and/or arrest you for it.

However there is zero enforcement of this law by the customs authorities, and you can clearly see that in my signature. ::)

Still, I believe you made the right choice of not bringing it, I wouldn't take chances with any country on that matter, not just Israel.

If you really want a laser pointer while you're in Israel, let me know I'll lend you one... ;)

umm put it iin your bottom luggage, playing with it on the plane is a terrific idea. no sriously just leave it on the bottom :D and your good.

i just say, importing drug to some arabic countrys means death if you get caught, so if lasers are also illegal there I would not take risk.

May very well be true, but Israel is not an Arabic country (there's an Arab minority), and no one gets the death penalty here, not even rapist murderers.

At worst case the laser is confiscated and/or the person is arrested, interrogated and then shortly after deported back to his origin.

Ohada deserves a bump on his reputation. That's the kind of laser-brother love we all need. ;-)

On my vecation in thailand, i had my 250$ green 50mW laser with me.. When going throught the security stand i heard the one looking at hte x-ray picture of my bag going nervous ..

she called over afew more people and one of them came over to me, ''open your bag please!''

i opened it, took out the laser and they looked really amused, when they lightet everywhere ... one of them even tried to look down the beam .. I managed to stop her.

i got it back, but they could have taken it. I will not take another laser on a plane again. Not even a 5 mw!
