Can I ask a question? What's the mainly use of the purple laser pointer

I learn about the laser pointers, and it can be sorted as the green laser pointer, red laser pointer, blue laser pointer and purple laser pointer.
What's the mainly usage of the purple laser pointer?
Any body can help me solve this question?:wave:

color doesnt make any difference if thats what u mean? but purple laser are some of the weakest to the eye to see since its almost at the end of spectrum for what the human eye can see.
 
Within the hobby purple lasers are the best for charging up glow in the dark objects, and they also have a very good burning ability per watt since most materials absorb the lower wavelengths better.

If you're just using it for pointing, it will appear very dim. Our eyes' peak absorption wavelength in the day is around 555nm. I'm assuming you mean 405nm, not any four figure diodes or gas lines. If you're just pointing, get a 532nm green laser; they're highly visible for much less power.

If you're NOT using it for pointing, purple lasers have range of uses, but most hobbiest uses fall under either the "fluorescent" or "phosphorescent" category (Neon colored stuff and glow in the dark stuff). Both of these rely on the laser's high energy wavelength. In layman's terms: once the laser is absorbed by the material, the light is re-emitted at a lower wavelength. In fluorescence this will occur as long as the laser is on. In phosphorescence the light will continue to be emitted even after the laser is off, due to the longer time it takes phosphorescent materials to re-emit the light.

Oh, and burning stuff too. ;)
 
Members above described it well. Several friends I know use purple lasers to find glow in the dark minerals at night. They sweep a known area for the minerals/rocks.
 
Honestly guys, isn't this troll a bit too obvious? I have really never seen anyone here join the forum because of his "interest" in laser pointers, yet not knowing the use for it. Also, the profile pic reminds me of a troll in the past, not sure which though. Everytime a troll enters the forums they make pointless threads with questions like these hoping as many people as possible will waste their time on answering it.

What this guy just did is like signing up on a hardware forum and asking people there what the purpose of having a computer is.

That's one of the reasons I joined.

Lasers are fascinating. The only reason I want to know what applications it has is so that I can scrap machinery and equipment for lasers.

Even if it is a troll, it's a good question IMO. What are purple laser pointers used for, other than charging glow in the dark materials and burning? It seems like there's a steady demand for them, so there's got to be more reasons than that.

True, it might not deserve an entire thread, but I think it's a good question.

Hi,
Many folks here build many Wl's some for color some like burning stuff, astronomy, and a number of other reasons. Different voltage inputs shift the WL's to different NM's. lots of reasons.Read up on what you would like to know first instead getting the answer the easy way.
Oh by the way who is that Lady in your avatar is that your squeeze or some random pic you chose from a Pella window advertisement

whats being aimed at is Day-Glo or even brighter GITD.

another common use is by Scorp. hunters as ALL species glow some when hit with 405--I kept Emporeror Scorps-(largest, cheap and no danger)
with a black light on top--looked awesome--

BUT 405 is NOT eye safe -no matter the mW.

I have made it a habit of looking for new member's 'intro' in the welcome section and PMing them about that (& location) BEFORE giving help-they need to meet us half way...imho
