Hi guys,

I just watched this demo video entitled "1W 445nm Blue Laser Burning Tests" and started feeling an odd pain in my left eye. It could be entirely psychological, but I was wondering: is it possible for video demonstrations to adversely affect ones vision?

Here's the video: YouTube - 1W 445nm Blue Laser Burning Tests

Thanks!

No, a video of a laser is not the same AT ALL as looking at the actual laser :p
Your "pain" is either completely psychological or you are just sensitive to bright light itself.

ROFLMAO!!! You should always wear safety goggles while watching videos of high powered lasers.

No as Human said, it's the physical burning power of the laser that causes blindness to your eyes, not the colour. (Although the colour can have some effect)

Monitors couldn't put out enough power to harm your eyes.

Watching a video can have a temporary effect on color vision, but not cause damage. People that remember using the old green-on-black monitors will probably have noticed that the room around them appeared pinkish after staring at such a screen for a long time.

Besides that a video of anything (laser or otherwise) can never do any more damage to your eye than a fully white screen could... in which case you'd burn out your eyes editing a word document etc ;)

never underestimate the power of the placebo effect.
there have been mothers with children trapped under cars and the mothers with sheer will to free their children have flipped the cars on their own!!!
Now that is strange and true!
lol
cheers

That's not a placebo effect lol the adrenaline gives them the superhuman strength :p
I saw a video where a guy lifted a helicopter off of his friend

it is the lacebo effect.
Placebo effect:"if you believe you can do it , you can"
Aparently
lol
cheers
p.s Pm me how you make your avatars?

In the same way that you can get malaria when watching an Animal Planet special about the Congo.

For some reason i sometimes feel the need to squint when watching vids of a laser burning something :p

I suppose its more of a nocebo-problem - so keep far from it ;)
