Woohoo!

I just got my first gaming laptop/desktop! WITH a super nice backpack and a Death Adder mouse! OMFG!

This thing is amazingly fast! I'm loading 2Moons on it to see how it looks on this CRAZY processor and graphics card!

The mouse REALLY amazed me, its really sleek and feels very good. The backpack is also very unique, as you put the laptop THROUGH THE SIDE, so its not easy for a their to find :wink:.

Its really flashy, lights everywhere and the 2nd LED on the inside is VERY nice! I love the power options, and the options where you can choose Normal/Turbo/TURBO EXTREME on the settings, you can also choose what to put on the 2ndary LED Display, I put battery, my name, and CPU usage.

People say that the sidebar on Vista slows it down a bit, for me because this thing is so damn fast I can leave it on without it slowing down my startup!

Unforchunately, my 10 year old brother chose the same exact laptop as me with the mouse and the backpack, so I have to be careful not to mix them up. Well, I guess hes a lucky little 10 year old. :roll:

Only problem I'm having is finding a full body cover for this thing, I'm so scared to get ONE tiny scratch. If I get ONE tiny scratch, or anything I'll literally pull my hair out!

Thank god I got the premium best buy 2 year warranty.

I'm also a bit confused about the x64 bit, don't some programs not work on it? Also when I run a few setups it says something about x86 lol? But they seem to install fine. I just hope 2Moons and all my other online games work on this 64bit. I don't know much about this bit stuff but I know the higher the better, but anyone wanna explain?

First off...it sounds like you are happy with your purchase....That is awesome.

Second...To be honest, I don't believe that there is such a thing as a gaming laptop. They simply aren't made for gaming, unless you pay over $2,000 for it. Granted, they will run a lot of games very well, it's just not what their made to do. (As long as your happy with it, then it's all good)

THird...you will be able to run most if not all of your older 32bit programs on your 64bit Vista. If your not sure if it will work, throw it in any way...It will tell you if your computer can't run it.

Fourth...64bit benifits...Faster, uses all 4 of your gigs of ram, and your keeping up with the times.

x86 describes a family of processor architectures (i386, i486, i586, etc.) and is now usually used to refer to 32-bit system architectures. x64 is technically an incorrect term (more correct would be x86_64), but it's supposed to refer to the 64 bit architecture.

In general, there's no point in bothering with a 64 bit OS unless you have more RAM than can be addressed by a 32 bit OS. In your case, you do, so you should be using a 64 bit OS.

You could also dual-boot a 32 bit OS and a 64 bit one if you absolutely need to run something compiled for a 32 bit architecture.
 
Ahh I see.

I actually had to return the backpack as it didn't fit the laptop.. But I did get another one.

@ wesdaman14 is that relevant.. :P? Dont worry I'm not a 50 year old virgin lol..
 
I thank for the price it's not a bad buy, it would really be good if it had a 18" screen :)
I do like the fact that it has a 7200 rpm HDD.

Not bad for a lappy.

Well, since it has a dedicated gf9800 graphics card and a 7200rpm harddrive with 4gb of ram, I'd say it's fully capable as a gaming laptop...

I've never found any 32bit program that won't run in a 64bit windows OS, I've only ever found driver incompatibilities with weird hardware that was built more than 3 years ago.. Anything that carries the "vista certified" logo must have x64 drivers, or it wouldn't qualify for vista certification. All user-mode applications will work fine, be they 32bit or 64bit.

Nice one. I've done an undergraduate AI course and I can tell you this no easy task! I'd be interested to see how accurate that is (for example, would it be fooled by a photo of your face? How about a really rough 3d model?)

Only downside is that you didn't get a Nehalem (i7) processor + DDR3. Nehalem has no FSB -- it's the biggest architectural change since the Pentium Pro in 1997. Nice to have, but would certainly drive your price up a bit ;)

Anyway looks good, enjoy your new toy :D

Nehalem basically switches over to a system similar to what AMD uses (the HT bus) so the bus isn't gone, it just got switched over to a different architecture like you were saying. (just trying to clarify since your post makes it seem like the bus is totally gone)
 
Yep. When I said "no fsb" it was more that the fsb bottleneck is gone (think ddr3 on a core2).

On-topic, I love the laptop! My brother got quite a nice laptop - A Novatech X-series with a dual-core 2.4ghz processor (He hasn't let me poke around long enough to get the model ;)), i think an NV 9800 chip, and 4gb ram, with a blu-ray drive (I've resisted so far). That has rock-solid performance in pretty much any game I've loaded for him (Crysis, Mirror's Edge) at 1920*1200, with mid to high quality settings. It is running an x64 copy of vista because of the 4gb ram. You should have lots of fun with that system!
 
"Gaming laptop"?! PC has gaming has been dead for over year to my knowledge. Otherwise nice laptop.
