i took one off with a dremil and one of the cutting disks that comes in it. just make sure it is secured propery before you start hacking at it. and be very very careful not to penetrate the can too deeply.
a vice, needle file and several minutes of time. would be best to seal it immediately in a module with a little epoxy after it's in to seal it, seal the lens assembly some slow set epoxy on the threads then assemble in a plastic bag filled with welder's argon. Then adjust for collimation and forget.
Be aware blu-ray lasers are air reactive mainly to water vapor and the life will be VERY much shorter if not under dry nitrogen or argon! :-/
