i know how you can get addicted. i have the 500mw 445 pocket and the 1w 405 challenger 2. absolutely love them. but right now im looking for a good diode on dtr's site to put in a Jrob maglite build. hoping for something with a driver already and 2+w for cheaper than 100$. going with m140 but just checking all of my options.

Yea, Sanwu rocks. :)

Pockets are a great unit, they seem to be little work horses.

These diodes have a pretty decent dot

Their right at your max if you got your own lens? And give you an extra watt. Hear their discontinued, so you might be interested? I really like the diode, got a couple stashed away. But best wishes, let us know what you decide. :)

check my signature. i just got the oclaro 700mw and the m140 2w+ with the drivers already installed. now to decide which one to put in my maglite build (i know its going to be the 445nm m140 but i want to try the oclaro too just to see):eg: and my sanwu pocket is my favorite even though its only 500mw. it just has such a tight pencil thin beam that i love! and those NDB7875's look great. next diode i buy will be that!

I think you might have done better if you had bought the Mitsubishi ML501P73 instead of the Oclaro. They seem to hold up better and also seem to handle being pushed harder than the Oclaro. The divergence of both is the same. TERRIBLE! But, it is a pretty 1+ watt orange/red 635nm light. Go easy on te Oclaro as they are not as forgiving as the Mits. The NDB7545 is a great TO-5 445nm diode that can output 3 watts with the same divergence as the M140. I have one in a sinner MS-SSW-II host with two 26650 batteries in it.

That is how it starts "just to see" pretty soon you'll start trying to talk your wife/girlfriend into getting a second job. :)

But seriously; best wishes with your builds and be safe. If you can when you finish post a build thread, with lots of pics and beam shots, their always a crowd pleaser. :)

im not planning on pushing it, just keeping it as it comes with the nano driver from DTR. any suggestions on a duty cycle if im using the maglite 2d cell host and aluminum heatsink from jayrob? and something i forgot to ask is do i need to have a heatsink on the driver board?

Words of wisdom from Paul.

Run time with that 2d maglite and a m140 should/might be unlimited. That sink can handle much larger diodes so you may be in real tall cotton there?

No you don't have to heat sink the nano drivers attached to the m140's :)

It's good., sorry showing my age. :)

Runtime might not be actually unlimited but I bet your going to get 3-5 minutes runtime out of that sink . :thinking:

I the ones you see in the pictures are the tri-pods you can get from Sanwu.

There are two mag lite builds ( size d ) pictured. They just barely fit in, and yes you have to balance them to make them stand.

As far as the ones I linked to, haven't yet got my hands on them. I bought 10 of them because it looks like they have the same clips in them that are in Sanwu's and they were a lot cheaper. I'm planning on making a short thread when I receive them. Hoping I made a wise purchase. But for 40.00 ish beting I can make something useful.

Had a post by CE5 that said the clips were interchangeable and you could buy adapters so you could mount 2-4 microphones ( or lasers ) on each one. Thought that was kinda cool, so I will see what I can find along that route.

These are the clamps i use with all my tripods and test equipment. They have a 1/4-20 thread on them and work with camera tripods and bench tripods. These are awesome clamps and hold tight without marring ant surfaces.

Rich, those are the Chinese knockoffs of the SmallRig clamps that cost ~$20.00. I have both and they are good. The SmallRig are better, but probably not $15.50 better. The last Chinese one I bought was about $4.50.

Yeah, here's the links to what I was referring to.

This one Musician's Gear Double Microphone Attachment | Guitar Center will take two of those standard mic clips.

And this one Sabra Som ST4 Four Mic Bar | Guitar Center will take four of those clips.

There's cheaper 4 place bars than that one above, they are similar to the two place one. And you can see the price difference on that Sabra Som, is a bit higher because the anchors are more complex than the two place one. They can slide- side to side, along the bar. Whereas the two place anchors are fixed to the bar.

If you want to go check them out before you plunk down some ducats, just swing by your local Guitar Center, to check them out. They usually have quite a bit of gear set up in-store.
So you can see first hand before ordering from them or elsewhere. Guitar Center 1011 W Avenue P, Palmdale, CA 93551 that is probably the closest one to ya' Bob.
They will usually have quite a few different mic stands on display as well, tripod and solid base types. For extra grip on the clips, we sometimes just used some small diameter rubber tubing and slit it lengthwise, then slid it over the knife edges of the clips to keep the mics from slipping out. If that didn't do the trick- we broke out the Duct tape! :D

Usually we only had to do that for mics that were pointing downward at sharp angles
