They are definitely different.  If you look at them, the one in Kenom's combiner has the internal surface in parallel with the outer angle.   The one from the sled has the internal surface in opposition.

That doesn't mean that it can't be used to combine beams. It means that you cannot come from the same directions as the one in Kenom's combiner.

Looks like I'm gonna have quite a job making a solely 405nm beam combiner out of this. If it doesn't work out, I might have to opt for something like a RV, RG, or GV, combiner... We'll see...

Yeah it just means you have to change the orientation of the lasers. Instead of having both of them side by side, you'll have one on the opposite side of the combiner. Maybe I should fiddle a little bit and see what I can accomplish with this.

Ah. But since it is a different optic altogether, the glass coating on it might be different than the one in your 405nm beam-combiner. Both internal ?mirrors? might not both transfer 405nm light with full efficiency, no matter which direction you have the laser coming in to the optic... I hope this isn't the case.

This "shape/configuration" is also used to simply "move" the beam over a measured distance. Still, it will be interesting to play with.

whats all the fuzz about? sure, i found the "large" 5x5mm pbs cubes only in ps3 sleds, but they are available, at least. the only advantage i could see in this new one is if its larger than the said 5x5mm. to be "usefully larger", like combining more than two beams (which means two side by side combined with two side by side the other way polarized on the other face of the optic), means it has to be at least 10mm long. in no way this would fit in a sled, or make any sense in there.
simply use the "largest" (=5mm square in a sled) pbs you can find, use the turning mirror to have one of the beams in right angle, and you are set? am i overlooking anything?
but heck, there are some nice looking optics in that sled indeed! could someone do this photo again with a scale?
