blu-ray PS3 arrived..but some problems!

I have already linked the diode to a simple driver with LM317 which delivers 45 mA...so about 16 mW I suppose. The diode works, the light is very nice(first time I see it)and at night you can see a "moonlight" colored beam! (and is quite hot to the skin)
The real problem is the collimation: I can't obtain a good divergence, at 3 m the spot seem to be 2-3 cm wide, but if you come close to the spot, you see a small point with a big sphere of diffuse light. Increasing the distance, the spot becomes very big and strange, different from the other kind of laser diode. I'm sorry but this is not simple to describe(especially with my poor english :-X )
I'm using the standard aixiz collimation module, with plastic lens.
This strange thing is normal? There is a way to improve beam quality(anyone tried glass lens)?

I have just received some glass lenses and having fitted one to my favourite blueray I must say I perceive the dot as being tighter and brighter.

I wear glasses and have found that through my glasses the dot looks spackly (best description of it I can think of :) ) looking over the top of my glasses it looks much better....... Blue rays are wierd...in a nice way... they never seem to be as focused as other colours.

Is the dot actually big or is it just your eyes not being able to focus on the dot? All blu-ray lasers will look 'blurry' at a distance because our eyes don't know what to do with the near-UV light.
 
At beginning I found that was my eyes unable to deal with 405 nm :o :o

But if you look carefully near the laser spot at 4-5 m leaving the laser ON, the spot is surrounded by a very large sphere of scattered light composed of interference figure(like thousands of blue-black point). This happens always with laser diode, but with higher wavelenght(red) the light is less scattered and the beam is more defined.
At 30 m the spot appears so big that is almost invisible :'( . It's like the violet beam is partially blocked by the air.

Yes I have focused it.
Few hours ago, with the help of my sister, I obtained a better focus: since looking at the actual beam diameter at distance is impossible(for human eye), she helped me saying the real dimension of the spot.
Now seems to be ok at 10 m distance.
For the scattered light, maybe is a feature of this short wavelenght :-?
 
Check to make sure the lense is in the right way. I know if you put in an aixiz lense backwards it gives a lot of 'scatter'-ish looking stuff
 
I focus mine using sunglasses. Almost any sunglasses will block enough of the "near-UV corona" to focus/collumate properly.
