BIOS changing parallel port settings?

Did you ever successfully get the drivers installed? You said you were experiencing errors before, so try to reinstall them now, with the laserbee unplugged. Be sure to restart after driver install then plug in laserbee. Dont leave it connected while installing drivers. We need to get the device recognized by Vista now.

I've only gotten the PL2303 sucessfully downloaded.
HL-340 would not download, it would say "Driver install failure"
Netframework 2.0 would now work, it said it would not run on a 64 bit OS.

However, I did use windows update and downloaded Netframework 4.0

The only drivers I need are PL2303 and NET framework 2.0 or above, right?
Then I should be able to install the interface software and run it?

But also, when I install PL2303 and it prompts me to restart my computer, so I do. However, upon starting back up I get no confermation on anything that happened. I'll un and reinstall it and pay close attention right now.

Ok so once you connect the laserbee via usb vista should attempt to install it. If not you should see it in device manager as an nkown device. You can right click itmand choose to update driver either automatically or browse to it on CD. Im going to run downstairs and look at the docs and drivers.

After I restart my computer after downloading PL2303, can I check that it was processed correctly?

We had already tested the USB drivers and PC Interface software
on Windows up to Win7 32Bit
We also tested a Win7 64bit OS before releasing the LaserBee 2.5W
USB LPM.

We did some tests on a Vista 32Bit laptop this morning only because
don't have a copy of Vista 64bit.
Since the USB Drivers and software worked on the Win7 32Bit and
64Bit... I see no reason for Vista 32Bit and Vista 64Bit to
exhibit other issues.

For now.. Follow these instructions exactly and ignore the User
Instructions supplied on CD if there are differences in the orders.

1) Uninstall all the USB Drivers and PC Interface software that
was supplied on the CD.

2) Reboot your computer

3) Copy all the Files on the CD to a new Folder on your computer.
You will use this new Folder for the Instalations.

4) go to the [Win2000 to Win7] folder and use only these files.

5) Install the PL-2303 USB Driver only.. Wait for the "Finished"
screen..

6) Got to the Vista Program Features and you will see the PL-2303
driver has been installed but is not yet active.. {Pic #1}

7) go to the Vista Device Manager and you will see that there is
no [Ports (COM & LPT)] heading.... {Pic #2}

8) Stay on the Device Manager and now plug in the LaserBee USB
cable into a USB port on your computer... You will get an
"Install Device Driver software" message at the bottom right
side of the Desktop screen. Give it some time to install...

9) The [Ports(COM & LPT)] heading is now visible and opening it
will show the Com Port that the computer assigned to the USB
cable.... {Pic #3}

10) Now install your PC Interface Software and in [Options]..
set the Comport to the Comport that your Computer Assigned
to the USB Cable.. {Pic 4}

If that does not work.. there may be issues with your computer..
or the LaserBee....

Can you test the installation on another computer..

6) Got to the Vista Program Features and you will see the PL-2303

I installed it and opened "Programs and Features", but I'm not sure how you mean when you say "Installed but is not yet active"

12944869.jpg

is what I see

Also, here is what I see in "Programs and Features" under the PL2303

I'm not sure where I would see anything regarding Installed but not active.

Also, in your post you had {pic1} and such... but there are no pictures.

The only other computer I can test it on is a windows 95 that I haven't turned on since 2001.

I had a dentist's appointment this morning and with
typing the above post and the turmoil in the shop and
being late for my appointment I forgot to attach the
Photos...

I just edited the above post with the pics...

Could this problem also come about if someone had an outdated chipset driver? Not sure if he got it figured out yet or not and thought I'd throw it out there.

The drivers and software that he is trying to install were
tested on Win2000... XP... Vista and Win7...

Non of the other LaserBee 2.5W USB customers have posted
any problems with the installation...

That why I stated that perhaps the problem is with his Computer
or the LaserBee itself...

Fenzir, is there another computer you have access to that you can try installing it on? Just to try and rule out the LPM as being the issue?

I'll try to get another computer to test it on, but the only one I own is a 95.
I've also tested the LPM in all 8 of my different USB ports...

Well 95 shouldn't be a problem since Jerry is one of the few good people who still thinks of people with operating systems older than vista :)

Alright, well the 95 started smoking then sparked and now won't turn on. So that's out of question, but I borrowed my professors alienware laptop (also 64 bit vista), instillation of Netframework 2.0 didn't work as expected, so I downloaded 4.0 for him, instaleld PL-2303, restarted, checked the Device manager for ports and... it wasn't there. So I installed the interface software and checked if comm port had a dropdown and it didn't.

EDIT: I also plugged in the LPM, it said it was unknown device.

EDIT2: Hold on guys, I think I'm onto something...

Alright, I got my ports visible, had to "Install Legacy Hardware"
However, I only have com3 and com4 ports, where as in Jerrys pictures he has PL2303 and com5. Mine doesn't show com5.

Jerry, does it only show Pl2303 when you have the LPM plugged in?

here's what I got now.

The Com5 on my computer was selected and assigned by that Laptop
running Vista..
My other desktop computers asign and use other Comports.. One running
XP uses Com7 and one running Win 2000 uses Com3 and another running
Win7 uses Com6...

It depends on what resources your computer is using... it is arbitrary...

Try testing it on a friend's computer if you don't have one handy.
