is this diode better than stonetek diodes?? "LASER POINTER DIODE 200mW 808nm T0-18 5.6mm NEW SEALED"
 





if it is 808nm then it is infrared and again you cant see the dot or beam...and again i highly doubt those are 1000mw
 
dude that links says 808nm which is in the infared range as in you cant see the dot plus the infareds are hell to collaminate not even worth it theres not many better deals than sekats

As far as the seller himself goes - he is a super nice guy, and sells quality stuff - but they ARE Infra-red diodes, not "red" as the ones I sell, so you cannto really compare his product to mine :-) ""Mac Vs PC"" springs to mind.....

I understand you are trying your best to do this as inexpensively as possible, and I even applaud you for that ! I had to do a TON of researching, "networking" and TONS of emails, even being ripped off multiple thousands of dollars before I was able to get a hold of a decent contact !! So, best of luck in that regard.
 
no you can get 1000mw 808nm's, they just have very crap beam specs.
 
i got an "experimentor 300" (solderless breadboad)... how does this work?

I would imagine that this like all diodes peaked out is going to generate a vast amount of heat. So you would indeed need somekind of heatsinking.

power in - power out = power dissipated as heat
(2.2V x 1.4A = 3.08W) – (allegedly 1W out) = around 2 Watts dissipated as heat.
Now let’s run it for 50 seconds, 2W x 50 Seconds = 100 Watt-Seconds = 100 Joules = ~24 calories.
Assuming a specific heat of about .25cal/gram/degree C (just a guess really), and a mass of 5 grams, then without any other energy being removed from the system the average temp of the system would go up by 20 C .
