Hi!
I know this is bit old now, but I always wanted to make a burning laser.
I am aware of the damage that these laser can cause and I'm also aware of the laws.
So last week I got a green pointer from ebay (really cheap one), tried to open it up, but failed and looks like some part fell out (looks like a small capacitor), so now it is broken (or maybe dead batteries lol).
I also have heard that pot modding laser will make it last much much less - some said 5 minutes or so.
Could someone recommend me a good laser pointer that I could pot mod and last a bit longer?
Or maybe it is easy to make my own laser using a driver and diode? (Don't know needed parts :( )

Don't pot mod....you really don't hear of successful pot mod's only failures. Check out rayfoss.com or o-like.com I have a 150mW greenie from o-like, and it burns like a champ!

Hope this helps

Or if you want to build your own you can do so fairly cheap, Look at the BST thread for kit builds and also look for "I want to build a laser" thread too for some good advice and welcom to LPF :)

Yeah, but they cost a bit...
Although this one seams reasonable: New Style red laser 200mW /adjustable [OLNRL200] - $44.99 : Welcome to O-Like.com, Your source for laser products

or this one: Pocket compact Green laser 50mW [OLPG50] - $28.00 : Welcome to O-Like.com, Your source for laser products

Btw, people can't see 800nm right? 808nm 220mW laser torch /adjustable/burning [OL808-200] - $39.00 : Welcome to O-Like.com, Your source for laser products

I hope they ship to east-europe!
Is there a difference between green and red lasers (from the burning aspect) ?
Rayfoss seems to be bit more expensive, but no details about shipping :(
Thanks for all your posts, now I have run trough everything here :D

808nm is a dim, cherry red to humans.
Don't mess with it.

Lol, why?
I read about building a laser, it still seems that it would be a lot esasier to buy a ready-to-use laser.
I'm thinking to buy the 200mW one, if anyone has a good reason why I shouldn't buy it - please shout :D

Because it doesn't look dangerous. It is easy to forget that it is outputting enough power to seriously harm your vision.
Reflections cannot be seen and it is hard to tell where you are pointing.

If you want to get it, by all means it is your choice.
Just use it safely and get some protection.

My advice would be to start with a 200mW red, if anything.
Invisible wavelength lasers are not something everyone should be messing around with.
The red will have better burning range and a more visible beam, anyway.

Good enough for me.
Will find out shipping prices for the 200mW red one and order asap :)

I agree. You can get a 200mw red for $27 shipped to your door from DX. Around $35 if you live in the US and have to use a different store.

Since you dream of burning though, you WILL need goggles. Burning is an up close and personal affair and 200mw is a lot of power. To do so without them would be like staring at the sun for fun with a chance of severe damage from any reflections that might happen.
