Best battery for Arctic?

I just purchased some of these ULTRAFIRE 18650 BATTERIES X 2 RECHARGEABLE PROTECTED on eBay (end time 29-Aug-10 13:07:25 BST) batteries, they work in my Arctic but are a little too long so the cap won't screw in all the way.

Is there anything similar recommended that actually fits?

Thanks!

Here's a useful link for battery comparison. I bought the Tenergy because it was the shortest of the protected batteries (it fits!) and tested as well (if not better) than the AW 2600 that seem to be popular here. Bought a Tenergy protected 2600 (cyan) from Amazon here.

The Arctic is not designed to run 18650 protected batteries. These are 2-3mm longer and run the risk of damaging your Arctic.

Why not find a plastic/rubber washer or o-ring that fits around the base of the threaded end of the host body at the tail cap end, of course.

With one of those on, a few millimetres thick, you should still be able to close the cap enough and have a flush fit.

There's definitely enough thread travel to accommodate longer 18650's, just the gap would be an issue as the cap could easily unscrew whilst handling.

Thanks for the links ZapU, I will see if I can track down one of those batteries in the UK.

denodan, why do I run the risk of damaging my Arctic? I am genuinely asking as I don't know enough about these things and don't want to damage it.

bbshamsa, yea good idea about the o-ring. To be honest though it's not a major problem, the cap is pretty much screwed on, there is just a 1 mm gap but yea it would be better flush.

The more I read about the Arctic, the more I hate the piece of crap, and WL for that matter. Wow, just wow.

What part of IT FITS don't you get?

You also questioned me when I said I got 45 minutes out of this battery:

Don't know how you get 45mins on an Arctic battery. I have 4 18650 batteries and none last over 20 mins on full charge. I know the Spartan is the far better burner, as for the Arctic mine broke down in 4 days, and now only a faint dot.

There are heaps of Arctics breaking down, there QC is crap, they need to take lessions from Dragon Lasers. The Spartan is superior in every way other then the host.

I can also confrim the Spartan is the far better burner, and so it should, it has been metered at something like 1120mw peek and with Tenergy 750mAh 3.2 CR recharables the Spartan runs at 1030mw on average. A far cry from the Arctics mere 860mw tops.

If you have a hard on for the Arctic, fine, but stop disputing FACTS. I got an hour out of this battery last time. I'm getting old but I can still tell time.

Look at the review I posted of the Arctic in the Arctic vs Spartan forum here debating, calmly, the two units. I would not trade my Arctic for a Spartan.

Do any stores such as Radio Shack sell these kind of batteries? My Arctic is coming soon (well hopefully) and I would like to get an extra battery or two. Though I will probably order one online, in an emergency though a store would be nice.

The only risk of damage is because the battery is longer, you run the risk of tighting it up to much damaging contacts and battery.

I sent my Arctic back, it broke down after 4 days, they are going to replace it, but since I also have the Spartan, it's miles better, far better quality, metered over 1 watt, far better cleaner retanglar dot, burns much better, and QC is exellent, unlike the Arctic, it's crap quality, and many have problems are faulty or malfuction after only a few days. Don't hear problems with the Spartan.

The only thing the Arctic has got is a cool host, but what's the point of a cool host when it has QC problems and many malfucting Arctics.

The Spartan has an uncool host, that looks like a small touch, but great laser, and great QC, whereas the Arctic is the other way around, crap. I love my Spartan and glad I got it.

My Crap Arctic crapped out after 4 days, since I paid for it, would rather have a replacment as it is nice owning both.

Also I did manage test the Glasses from Dragon lasers which I got with the Spartan, and glasses work well, even well on green lasers.

Before I sent my Arctic played up, tried the Spartan out on my WL glasses and was far too bright.

Just hope I get a Good Arctic this time? If I do, will enjoy both lasers.

You say that now, wait until you join the failed arctic club like everyone else.

Get the AW 18650's from that website, but make sure they fix as these are protected. Jayrob recommended them to me, and now I swear by them as well.

You sure have it in for the Arctic. "Eveyone else" would imply 100% failure rate.
There are lots of Arctics, not all of them dead. And I'm sure not all of them will die prematurely. Time will tell. I have my fingers crossed.

you're quick to snap a ppl.... denodan wasn't talking to you. and in general he was right. YOU happen to be the exception to the rule with your find of shorter protected cells.
