I was messing around with my new Blu-Ray that i just built. You know, burning stuff, lighting stuff up and all that fun stuff. My sister was in the room and i pointed the laser at her diamond ring. The diamond was glowing like a blue green color. After shining on it for a few seconds, the diamond was glowing, really weird and awsome. Anyone know exactly why the diamond would continue to glow after the laser is shown(not sure if shown is the correct form of shine ot not) on the diamond.

Sounds like your sister's diamond is not just fluorescent, but phosphorescent.

It's the same idea as fluorescing, but the "glowing process" happens more slowly, so the glow continues after the laser is removed.

I have nice fine white diamond f.s. that is fluorescent and phosphorescent, it's near 1/2 carat and about $1000 mounted in a white gold circle w/ white gold chain. Very nice! -Glenn
