Australia probe into iPhone 'fire' on plane

I have heard of lap tops doing this in the airport, I suspect it's the Lipo cell in the phone just like in the lap top.

Definitely just the LiPo cell in the phone. It probably expanded slightly in the air due to the lower pressure, and when they landed again, the battery shrunk back down & shorted itself out.

One of the downsides to LiPo, less resistant to things like that because of their thin foil casing. On the other hand, they can't explode in foil.

^^ I doubt that , Millions of people have iPhones and take them on planes, if that was the case, this would be happening 100's of times a day.

Its more likely just a technical fault with the phone.

I agree with you ped !
He is right, i have traveled with my iPhone 3G & 4 more than 20 times
and nothing happened.

Australian air safety officials have launched an investigation after an airline passenger's Apple iPhone apparently caught fire during a flight.:wtf:

I heard that a few iPhones were built for Apple by WL...
maybe it was one of those....:eg:

I thought that high altitude airplanes had a pressurized
passenger cabine due to the low pressure outside the
plane...

Yep - on average the cabin of a high flying commercial jet is pressurised to 8000ft. (a tradeoff between passenger comfort and structural strength).

Now I bet the aussie government is going to ban i-phones :(
