A friend of mine is crazy about these, i am going to link this to tempt him to death!!

Looks cool, but why does it have an absurdly high price compared to a conventional plasma globe?

Because this one is custom made and has a special blend of gas, I still don't think it's worth the price not even 1/2 the price.

Globe, <$50. AC flyback and circuitry, <$50. Gas, <$50, faux marble stand, <$50.

Artist salary $???
Equipment required to evacuate, fill, and seal a gas globe: >$1000

It's not hard to experiment with different gases though:

Yeah but we're paying for a product, not his equipment no?

Agreed, unusual bespoke items cost more, but not that much more :wtf:

I want one! ...but I'd rather buy it from someone on LPF at a much more reasonable price ;)

Hehe, nice to see my tubes are still making rounds. I need to film the Xenon one I got from ZrgZone (St. Petersburgh, Russia.).

These tubes are not worth nearly the price the listed auction has. You can get a custom sphere made to your specs for <$300, or pump and fill your own if you have the equipment. A matching powersupply for even the largest tubes can be made for less than $100.
