It's a gas laser that uses ionized argon gas in the plasma form which emits photons, like a HeNe but bigger and generally more powerful also the beam is cyan in colour.

No, generally around 20-80mW.

And these things are MASSIVE. They use a LOT of power, but they are REALLY cool :D They have a cyan coloured beam generally, 488nm.

But you can use that power to heat the house while you are playing with the laser. ;)

They are used in laser shows IIRC. The power can be anywhere from a few milliwatts to several watts.

most of the industrial/medical argons are pretty high power. 1-10W but the ones used for DNA research and stuff like that (the ones we usually get) are usually around 200-250mW peak for a multiline, and maybe 60mW peak for a single line.

Thanks for all the answers. I have a local guy who is selling a ALC 60x (american laser) for $300. Is this a reasonable price?
