I got my Argon Ion laser today  ;D  It's a Uniphase Cyonics 2201-15SLB.  It is rated at 25 mW output at BLUE 488 nM  --  SKY BLUE   :D

It outputs 27mW peak at full power --- 1300 Watts input ........  Power output can be adjusted between about 3 mW and 27 mW.  About 26 pounds of stuff to do this but it sure is a nice beam.

SenKat --

I knew this would drag you to your feet !! I like my 405 BUT THIS IS BLUE !!

My wife scouled at it because I ran a have an extension cord across the room. It is rated to draw 17 amps but I read 10 amps max.

Thats really cool Mike! :D I love blue, I still cant wait for high power blurays though. ;D

BLUE BLUE BLUE!!! My favorite colour!!!!!!!!!! You lucky guy!, have fun with it, and give us plenty of pics!

Wait a minute, is that no Typo? roughly fivehundredthousand times output power?
Talk about efficiency.
Still, on the pic, it looks like a DPSS module. Can you get us a "normally lit" picture with something for size comparison?

Be careful not to blow a fuse or melt the insulation to the extension cord now.

yes argon lasers are horribly inefficient, but this thread makes me sad my argon is drlava's now :'(

Phil - It's two boxes.  A power supply and the laser head.  The boxes are about 5" square and 12" long.  This is a small one - that's why it runs on 120 VAC !! They do produce a lot of heat and a little light  :D

Mike

Here's a brightness comparison --- 10 mW of 405 vs 2.5 mW of 488

No !!! 2.5 mW !! Minimum power setting. The difference is like comparing a red and a green.

damn that thing is nice. I can't wait to get more into gas lasers and whatnot. i've been thinking about it but i'm not ready to work with that much current or money yet =)
