guys do 405nm t803 diodes have isolated cases?

so don't need to be electrically insulated from each other?

I thought you've built like 100's of 803T leadlights ::) :-?

Sometimes we do things without really knowing "why"

i have indeed built lots of leadlights but ive always used two wires + and -

so just thought i would ask the question

as I'm assuming you already know, for PHR803Ts you can solder either the + pin to the case pin and make it case positive, or you can solder the - pin to the case pin and make it case negative.

Generally it is probably best to connect the case to either the + or - lead to prevent it from "floating" which could make it susceptible to static discharges.

In the good old days, the case was connected internally to one lead. And the third lead was the photo detector for feedback. IIRC. But I have been letting it float lately. I build portable bare aluminum Labs. And it seems counterintuitive that I would want my hand in contact with one side of the laser die. Seems more likely to pop the diode changing batteries or whatever.

Am I thinking right? Of course I have a years old leadlight that still works. Should I go back and bridge the case leads on my new lasers?
