Anyone successfully take apart an ebay pen?

So much to my disappointment last night, when I tried to use my new 638 nm ebay pen I discovered that it wouldn't work, and upon investigation I found that the solder holding the battery contact spring to the driver board has snapped.

I know these pens are only a few $ but I would rather not have wait for a new one to arrive.

So has anyone had any luck taking apart any ebay pen lasers? If so, could you share some tips and tricks?

Thanks!

Well to get the module out of the host is pretty hard. I completely wrecked mine :/ using a vice or good pliers i twisted off the silver cap and then proceeded to tear away at the host with pliers. Take of the battery compartment and then kind of pry/peel the aluminium host away, just enough so the module can be pulled out.
Now im not sure if theres another way, a way thatll save the host. This worked for me :)
Cheers

Yeah they come apart Ok. Have taken a few 405nm / 532nm pens part with success. Just solder that sucker back on, and put humpty back together. Nothing special. Just make sure you wrap up the parts where your tools apply pressure if you even need any.
Is the module out yet?

How did you get the module out

Back when this was commonplace to take a pen apart, I drilled an appropriate sized hole in a small hard wood block, cut it in half and used that in a vice to grip the end cap. Leather straps also work sometimes.

Yeah this pen is held together with some serious epoxy :/ I think Im going to have to accept defeat on this one.

Thanks for the help though.

Heat it and then try to remove the silver cap! ;)

Apparently using the back half of an aixiz module to press the module out works. take the cap off the pen, insert the back half of a module, then use a vice to press it out. You will have to remove the brass threaded ring from the back part of the pen though- when you unscrew the pen, the battery compartment is threaded on the outside, but the module section just has a brass (assuming brass) threaded little ring thats pressed in. pliers will get it out. then press the module out from the other side, so the driver pops out first..

Yeah but I don't have an aixiz module and for the cost of one and the time to have it shipped I could just order a new laser.
