Anyone know the wattage/current of the IR diode in a PGL-589-50mW ?

The summing crystal is KTP, and the gain medium is either Nd:YVO4 or Nd:YAG. One's for 594, one's for 589 - I forget which is which.

Pretty sure. Read the first paragraph of this article. No doubt there are other ways to get 589, but if they can use the same crystals as green and just change the coatings, why wouldn't they?

Depends on the costs, efficiencies, and alignment difficulty I would imagine. They're likely going to make whatever's cheapest on a materials/time standpoint. I remember reading stuff about making 589 using LBO though in a different article.

Did you try changing the driver yet and see if it lases yellow through the crystals?

Yes. Well essentially yes. I hooked it up to a bench PSU, got the diode laser fairly well, and then started powering up the TEC slowly (in case it needed to hit a certain temp before 589 output).

No luck

Kind of like when my GPL 589 died. When it finally quit lasing before I dismantled it, nothing I tried ever got any yellow photons out of it again, even though the pump seemed to be operating fine.

Do you think that you need a new crystal set? I

I want to see this DIY 589, it could be very well be one of the best DIY laser if done right.

To clarify - you guys know I'm not trying to revive the 589 right?

I'm pumping a 532nm crystal set with the 808.

If anyone wants to get rid of their dead yellows, I'm interested :)
