ok, so I have a hard drive (40gb) out of my old zen mp3 player. I know it works fine. I put in an external usb enclosure. now for the weird part: when I plug it into my computer (XP) is shows up as a DVD drive :-? Any ideas on how to fix this?

YOU wouldn't. c0ld would.

Try Logical Disk Manager (control panel - classic view - administrative tools - computer management - disk management tab) and reformat the drive. If it still shows as a DVD drive, well I have no idea. Did the enclosure its in come from a dvd drive?

Erm, it still shouldn't register as a DVD drive in a DVD enclosure, cause how would you hook it up? I would do as blue said, its just a prob with windows, it has done that for one of my mp3 players before.

It doesn't even show up in disk manager, cause it thinks it's a DVD drive. idk, i'm stumped.

amk, you can't just MAKE a driver... I'd consult Windows tech support.

i made a driver for the CVS camera I hacked....

I also f***ed up the rest of my USB ports, and had to do a whole bunch of replacing parts..... :-/

Try another HD in the enclosure if possible. It should register as a mass storage controller when the enclosure it plugged in.
