Do you mean pure Silver or Sterling Silver which is an alloy of 92.5% pure silver and other metals such as copper which adds strength.

If you do mean pure silver, it is really soft and it will tarnish like a son of a gun.
 
hi guys
i'm looking for any machinist on the forum who can work with sterling silver to make me a host.
the silver price in Australia is pretty cheap. and they also offer discount.
the price was $3 AUD/cm and the measurement was ID 12mm x OD 30mm
ID= inner diameter
OD=outer diameter.
if so what is the minimum required length to work with?
i need it to hold 2 x 18650 battery.

or should i buy stock bar instead?

I'd chat up Ehgemus maybe send him a PM, he makes really nice hosts, you'll just have to give him a general construction design and make sure he'll be able to do it for you in sterling silver, you could either buy it yourself and have it shipped to him or ask him to buy it and you can pay him. He's got nice quality hosts and a good reputation, I recently ordered from him and shipping is already speedy, I can't wait to receive it :D I'm sure he'll be able to do something, and btw why sterling silver?
 
people say silver is the best heat sink and some member have had silver host. i want to try out something different once in a while.

Diamond is actually the best thermally conductive material, why don't you give that a go? It would only take a few millions/billions of dollars and extremely industrial machinery to construct :p

I'm kidding :) Sounds like a cool idea! Maybe a bit expensive though :P I can't say for sure because I don't actually know, but I would think copper would conduct heat a lot better? Just think about wires, I've never commonly come across sterling silver wires haha :p

I think it's a uniquie idea, as having a sterling silver host would be badass (and shiny) :D
 
i was thinking of going by 50/50 as that will cut the cost quiet alot and since copper and silver rival each other. silver will dissipate heat into the air very quickly due to lower density than copper. copper have superior strength to silver.

there was some thread sometimes ago about tungsten host. i visited the shops today and damn compare to aluminium host of the same size tungsten are 5x heavier according to my hands.


May i ask what shopping centre these Tungsten/silver/aluminium hosts/blocks of metal are in?
Sounds like a shopping centre i'd enjoy.
 
you could do pure silver for the heatsink and have the rest of the host made of something else. if it was designed to conceal the heatsink then tarnishing wouldnt be a problem. copper tarnishes too though. with how cheap silver is getting, been considering this myself. it's not too much beter than copper though
