Got this nice laser yesterday in the mail. Messed around with it. But then I misplaced it.
Searched it till a few hours ago within the 50m² where me and my gal livin. Found it today - it was in the freezer.
Guess I wanted to test if I can see a lower wavelength when totally cooled down.
Glad the laser was working after that without any problems

~Pics do the rest of the job... enjoy~

Comparison next to a 42mW 685nm and a 50mW 650nm

Comparison next to a 4mW 635nm (Atlasnova)

Strange changing output, looks a bit like mode shifting to me we know from DPSS lasers. Also see vid attached.

Random pics

Thanks Jordan

Awesome you got that one quick.;) Very strange on the output could the diode window be loose?

Guess this is the case here. It rattles when I shake it. Is there a way for me to repair it? Otherwise I´m just gonna live with it.

Other than decanning the diode not that I can think of.:undecided: I have seen similar effects as shown in your video on a 405 build I had and it was a loose diode window then.:o

Very strange that the output changes. Is this a sanyo? The output also seems elliptical. The diode I had was nearly perfect gaussian.

Guess the problem is the one DTR described in post #5 above. Luckily it doesn´t influence the " small point output" in any way.

lol in the freezer...

I like mine very much :) The color is just amazing nice especially next to a ~655nm it looks very orangish. If I got enough money I'd buy also a 671nm like the one Aryntha has. 671 dpss must look so develish red and that combined with the thin beam...
and also it's a little brighter than 685 ^^

Higher powered 685nm MUST come soon. I really like this very comfortable red.

But it's diode? or am I wrong?
I just like dpss more because of the beam specs..
and why must high power come soon? Is there a new projector?

It´s a diode, that´s right. But the beam specs and the output are very clean and good!

No new projector or something else (not afaik ) - I just hope to see a higher powered 685nm in the near future.

I dont think you will really. Most new visible diodes are going to come from projectors and 685nm is very inefficient for a projector because it will require much much more output to achieve visibility than say a 635nm.

At least I hope we see someone combining more than 5 of them to a single beam. A bit of fog/steam/smoke always helps.

is the color different from 658nm? I have heard that anything beyond 650nm is for all observable purposes visually the same color just dimmer.

I have a 685nm diode that I need to get lasing one of these days.

I think you can still differ the colors
For example as Aryntha described with his 671nm differs from a 655nm
or a high powered 808nm...
You can still see a very dim dot from that WL and it looks like purple with almost no more red in it
