Once upon a time... I posted a thread that I was going to China and how this might impact my laser hobby. Now I am here and at the request of a user in my first post, I made this second post. Any follow-up comments or suggestions on what to do in China?
I noticed that certain things don't work over here... I can't do an LPF search. Literally the thing just says loading..... and doesn't do anything. Pictures take a lot longer to load as well.

Use a VPN (Virtual Personal Network) that is often used to browse in China or other countries, note you will also unblock YouTube! Good luck. I don't use Vpns but it's really important in another country that you may need to do stuff.

Where abouts in China are you?

China is so vast/large and with so many layers of people, culture, and history going back 10,000 years, you could spend the rest of your life 8 hours a day "seeing China" and not see but a small percentage of what there is to see. Is like asking, " I am in USA . Any follow-up comments or suggestions on what to do in USA?" You need to be a little more secific.

Example: If in Beijing you must visit the Forbidden City which the Chinese call Gugong which literally means "former palace". To just walk past, not stop and study or go inside every structure within the Gugong would take 1 month full time, 8 hours/day/7 days a week.
There are a lot buildings and sights to see in the Forbidden City as was explained to me when I asked the question " How long to walk by/see every building in the Gugong" of the nice young woman assigned to show me around the Gugong. She was Beijing University graduate student studying for her Masters degree in just "Gugong".
She escorted me to a few of the places in the Gugong that I wanted to see and was brilliant knew every detail about the area I wanted to see which she short cut escorted me to. Was a great day --just 1 day at Gugong to see a little bit of it and get some great photographs.

So what are you interested in, how much spare time do you have to sight see? What City in China are you staying in + are your free to travel to other Cities by train or air plane?

If you can get there, get a look at the Three Gorges Dam, it's the largest damn dam in the world, if you get there, take some photos and post them here. It spans the Yangtze River by the town of Sandouping, located in Yiling District, Yichang, Hubei province.

Your location still says Virginia, you may want to fix that. Also feel free to post your new location here: http://laserpointerforums.com/f57/countries-lpf-where-you-94536.html

Take a photo safari on the Great Wall !!

Yes this a good idea, and take photos and post them here.

Try some of their garlic !!!

Sometime in the last several years I saw garlic for sale at the store that said it was from China and I wondered why we would import garlic from China. I think it may have been at Walmart, I have been buying all my food at Walmart for a few years now.

Thanks for the advice, Pi R Squared. I'll change my location soon.
I am in Beijing, China. I have already visited most of the tour able sites around here.CNI sounds interesting...
Anything else I could take advantage of in China, mainly regarding lasers?
Why the garlic... Is there anything particular about it? Also...
How do you guys know so much about China?!

I was being sarcastic haha sorry, I thought it was common knowledge that China's garlic is grown in human poo... Don't eat that stuff. I once worked at Woolworths distribution center, packing the vegetables etc for the shops. I also discovered that Australia imports lemons from California!! And green bananas turn yellow after a 24 hr soak in some type of gas.. Which is deadly to humans.

WHAT?!!! I didn't know that! I will try to avoid it. I guess with so many people they don't need bullshit/chickenshit that we use to help grow stuff here in the U.S. I remember once eating garlic chicken in a Chinese restaurant years ago that was so hot and spicy I was barely able to eat it. I hope the garlic wasn't from China. I have drank beer from China a few times (Tsingtao), and there are some canned seafood items from China that I have also tried that are sold at Walmart.

Blocks are a problem in china indeed. I was in tibet a few years ago and found many services like facebook and youtube blocked. At the time i was able to circumvent that quite easily using TOR, though speed is a bit limited.

They also block actually getting a bridge list from the TOR service though. You can, if need be, obtain a list of bridges via email: send an email with "get bridges" subject to bridges@torproject.org, and it will email you some ip's you can copy-paste into TOR.

A word of warning though: circumventing the 'great firewall' can be illegal. I doubt they'd give a rats ass if you do so to post some pics on facebook or search the forum via google, but if you are doing something over there that puts you in a position where you could leak sensitive data, beware!

And as far as growing garlic using human excerment as a fertilizer: how is that any more gross that growing potatoes in a field drenched in pig shit as is commonly done in the west?

I grow my vegetables in chicken poo and that's just rank, but I'm fine with eating the produce. There's just something about growing food in human shit that just doesn't sound right to me. Go for it if you like though don't let me ruin it for you.

We do have canned cooked ready to eat chicken meat in stores here, but it's not whole chickens if that's what you mean, that I would like to see.

I agree it doesn't sound right. If someone has a virus or a contagious disease couldn't it be in their shit? And if you don't wash your food good enough couldn't you get sick? Don't animals mostly get sick with things that aren't transferable to humans? I don't know much about the subject but that's what I thought and probably what many people think. Is there anyone here who is a shit specialist?

I'll take a photo next time I'm there and I'll post it here ha ha haaa. That shits crazy, I also heard sandwiches are next to hit the shelves..

You can always look around the streets for those 301/303 lasers. Sometimes you may even stumble on a 1w laser. Keep in mind that just about every laser you find will me mislabled. A 100mw green DPSS laser will be labled 1 to 10 watts and ive seen the blue 1w ones labled high as a kilowatt. You can get a 303 301 for around 60 to 100 yuan. When you buy tech always haggle with them as the first price they give you may be as much as 3x its actual retail value.
