I finally finished my first prototype of this idea I've had for a long time now. I bought many Aixiz modules of coarse for many projects, one of which includes NOT destroying it for the metal housing only. :) In fact, it uses 3 of them forming a 3 point "triangle" where the beams all parallel. I just thought I would share with my brothers here at LPF. 8-)

I used one of these as a host. http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.3200

Here are some beam shots. :)

Imagine if one was built with 3 open-cans! :o

It's just for show, so the 3x5mW is cool! 8-)

Getting the 3 beams parallel is my secret. Let's just say it isn't that easy! :D

Nice! It must have sucked trying to get those things aligned. A couple of Blu-rays in there would be nice too.

lol!

Sweet...

Shine that thing around at a comics convention and you'll find yourself with lots of orders! :D

Nice work. [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Nice job. Btw, are you using a single driver to power all 3 diodes?
Just be sure the 3 diodes are drawing similar amounts of current, due to the differences in resistance, one of them could be drawing 150mA and another one 300mA. :o

We used to have a preditor at the paintball site I used to work at. Had a full costume and the three lasers like that.

Good job.

I believe that he is using the aiXiz red modules (Like the Sure modules). They put out less than 5mW. They each have their own driver inside the module. That is what I am using (Sure) to put mine together. :)

Like he said, "It's just for fun" not burning.

Alien beware ;)

Peace,
dave

Oh crap, I didn't notice he said they were 5mW LDs, never mind my above statement. :-[

These actually came labeled 7.0mW max, and I'm powering each one in parallel by 3 AAA at 3.6V. (recommended 3-5V) I payed $6 ea. in Sept. 2007 from Aixiz directly. Looks a little brighter then the adv. 5mW red. :)

It would be cool to hook some stronger ones in a simialr fashion and use an adjustable lens to focus them to a single point...

This just looked cool so I tried one. I haven't figured out what I'm going to use to "fill in " the space around the modules yet.

Here's mine

Get some antec silver thermal epoxy and fill in the top. YOu won't be able to remove it very easily but it will look good filled in. Either that or just clay. Then when the clay is dried paint it silver.

Epoxy is my first choice. It would be the right color and have good strength. I used Liquid Nails to hold the modules together, but they still shift out of alignment. It just seems like kind over kill. It would take a whole tube. Here's the head ground out to allow the modules to fit and the modules combined. Yes. This picture was taken BEFORE I remembered that the modules are case positive. I've obviously fixed the wiring scheme.
