hi all, noob here, i just got one of these 405's-20 and was woundering if this can be turned in to a burning laser? i also have a 650nm 200mw diode and a 650nm 5 mw diode, can these be used for the same, if they can , were do i get a laser driver and what kind do i have to get for say the 405?

Any info would be great  ...

Forgive my ignorance, but what is an AIX-405-20D ?

Peace,

What both of them said.

looks like abbreviations for three things. I am guessing Aixiz-405nm-20mw Diode
If i am correct its the one from this site mfgcn dot com
Kip Kays laser phaser aixiz module for $140 ooo and its rated 20mw

OMFG! I think you are right :(

From Aixiz's site . . . .

AIX-405-20D DIODE
Item # AIX-405-D-20mw

$140 for PS3 diode . . . not bad work if you can get it. :o

I am so sorry, OpposedOdie. I wish you had come here first. Can you still cancel your order? :-/

Peace,
dave

they sent me the wrong diode and i called them and they said that they will send the right one out express mail ...  they sent me a 650nm 200mw diode   ...  i think i should have done more reading before leepfroggin in to this ... LOL ... no to late to get money back , i did the paypal thing ... it is a blueray diode, but from what im gathering is, it isnt a good one for this project ??? if not what do i need to do this ?

its far too expensive for a BR diode, you can get BR diodes that can be ran at powers as high as 125mW, and they cost less than $40

Btw, its the PHR-803T HDDVD diode, incase you were wondering :P

Well, if it is a PHR-803T diode, at least he will be able to build a nice laser (even if it does cost about $113 too much)

If they let him keep the 650nm diode at least he will have reduced his cost by about $30 of value.

Peace,
dave

Ahhh, the joys of the ambiguous use of pronouns. I think the "it" that Diachi was referring to was the cheaper, more powerful diode, the availability of which he noted.

Dave, I think this may be the perfect opportunity to showcase and stress the importance of the clear use of antecedents when using pronouns such as "it". You being "in the field", so to speak, looks like a great opportunity for you to share this important lesson with others, such as in the post you quoted, and you're much better suited and equipped to illustrate the importance than I.

Very elequently put.

I just have gotten of the phone with the guy i spent to much money with for a diode that was 113 bucks over priced ... he is sending the blueray out in the morning mail ... LOL ...I asked him what he wanted me to do with the 650nm 200mw diode ... he said keep it ... Lucky me ... well i need to find out what to do with that one now ...

is this a good price for this diode >?   (im a little mixedd up here)

No, that's a horrible price. The diodes everyone is using are the the ones from the HDDVD PHR-803t sleds. The cheapest you can get one currently is $27 shipped, and they can reach powers of over 100mW.

$140 for a 20mW is a ripoff , considering.
