Just did some finishing touches on this 1w 445. Go to put the battery in, and have it pointed at a surface a couple hundred feet away. No dot when I screw in the battery cap, so I figure it's off. But the switch was not off, there was a faulty connection between the anode and hot battery contact. So a slight bump as Im going back indoors, and the laser flipped on for a fraction of a second. The beam hit the off-white wall about 8 feet away. Didn't hit at a direct 90 degree angle..Far from it. Im not seeing any spots, but I don't know if that matters. Am I fucked, or did I get off easy?

If you're not having any trouble with your vision... (seeing spots, trouble focusing, flash blindedness) then I would assume that you were not even hit.

It was determined that for 1W of 445nm at 1.2mrd to hit an ordinary semi-gloss black surface, you would need to be about 8 inches away from the dot before you get damaging diffuse reflections.

To be honest, 12 times that distance on a white wall is what I do all the time. Note that my wall is blank of any objects at all, so that its perfect for pointing.

Do you think you hit? It doesn't even sound like you got hit..

Faulty soldering will plague this laser no more.

You have smashed up your 445nm laser with an axe?

Please tell me that's a bloody well photoshop action there.

It looks like you somehow managed to cram a flashlight into a tree trunk.
Are you a troll, by chance?

Who needs Photoshop? Axes are much simpler. Actually, it was the blunt side of a maul, if you want to be technical.

Im rather pissed. I do hope Boosted_4_cyl spends the money I gave him on soldering lessons.

Was that only the host smashed or module, diode, lens, driver with it?

You sir, should never be allowed to operate anything more complex than a pencil.

Are you out of your damn mind, dude?

You do realise that a dot at wall 12 feet away will do apsolutely zero damage to your eyes whatsoever?

You do realise that you just smashed up $100 in parts, while you could have just sold it on the forum?

Even if you did somehow get yourself in danger, and you didn't by what described here, what you did is equivalent of smashing a gun that shot a person instead of blaiming the person pulling the trigger!

Every single thing that could have been done wrong, you did it.

in all fairness (yes i think it was a bit excessive , but fun im sure) It was his to do what he wants. Including but not limited to smashing it to pieces.

Bwahaha, probably. I need to stop eating these damn hallucinogenic mushrooms every week. And I prefer pens, thank you. :shhh:

I suppose I could still sell the clicky-cap on the trading post though? It's a pretty nice clicky-cap. It's got a lanyard and everything. Very nice even feeling clicky action, with lots of pure, crisp mid-tones in the sound itself. Nice and percussive, reminiscent of retro Salsa Music. You'd buy it right?

bwahahahahaha

Yeah I guess you overreacted a bit there, that laser could've probably
been fixed rather easily.
But hey, better safe than sorry I guess. :D
Kudos for that!

And mushrooms every week? You really should consider slowing it
down a little bit, buddy.
