Decided to put some power through the IR diode that lives with it in the burner (tested to destruction of course)

They seem more than happy to run up to 300ma with no appreciable heating of the Aixiz housing....not much over that though killed the diode.

What a weapon of a diode though, focused, it was enough to turn most black objects to white-hot carbon before tunneling through quite happily!!!

Fun, Fun, Fun

I didnt think the NIR diodes burned much, thought they were only 80mW or so, you must have overpowered it ALOT !

Exactly what I thought, I had it sitting on 150ma for a few hours, noticed it was pretty much cool to touch the housing, so ramped it up to 250ma and noticed it had some hefty cutting ability...warm at best, then took it to 300ma and it was great, still warm. Got bored with that and after an hour or so up beyond 300ma (~350) where it turned into an LED :)

They have really good burning abilities!!

So impressed were my friends they've bought me some DVR115's just so they can have an IR laser built...I get the open-cans for free :)

What diode and driver are you using in your 1W "IR" Dorcy Jr, (listsed in you sig.) :o?

I attached a potiontemeter to the Original Dorcy Circuit. Then, i found out that there was a driver by the batteries, so things started working out of phase. That thing is IR because it is 808nM, i bought it on eBay from Snoctony. That Dorcy Jr is almost dead, though :(

Aww the next one died at only 180ma :(

Re: Accidentally killed a pioneer DVR115 diode...b

Actually I just looked, the n00b gave me a DVR215.....maybe they used a different IR diode?
