That could be used to power a Laser Diode Current Regulated Driver...
I have a similar PS and the controls are not sensitive enough to drive
a Laser Diode directly... There is too much overshoot which will possibly
blow your LD... IMO

Yup, I agree with jerry. Use a driver between this and your diode ;)

I also agree with Jerry. I have this exact PSU and it works very well, but you are very limited by the 1 turn potentiometers, A small "bump"can increase the current by 100-150mA, not nearly sensitive enough for LD's
Also, you probably would never need 3A for laser experimentation, but this supply will only put out 3A@12-13V
At 18V, top current is 1.79A. Just something to keep in mind if you plan on charging large batteries or other hi-current projects.
But it is a very good PSU for that price.($65)
BTW: If you look around and are not in a hurry, you can find them on e-bay for around $35 (what I paid for mine)

Nick;

My first power supply was a similar 30 VDC @ 3 amps.

It had a coarse and fine adjustment for current and voltage.

They are still available for under a hundred.
A similar model:

I have tested many, many diodes with it.

Just ramp them up and ramp them down.
