What is the difference between A130 and A140 diodes?
Is `140 tougher and can take more current? More powerful?

Well, A130 are told to have their efficiency less for few percent, also allegedly they have a little bit lower waveleghts (around 440nm) while A140 and others have around 450nm. That would be according to LED_Museum's spectrometering.

Ok, thanks for quick and informative answer.
By the way: Does the spartan have A140?

Yes the spartan does have a A140

Why in the world would they use a 140 when the 130 is less expensive?

Chinese manufacturers, just like most others, use the least expensive components they can get while still maintaining the quality level required. A 130 will perform at the required level (and above) for less money. There would be no reason to use a diode from a 140.

If you believe this because you think that they were looking for some sort of "higher quality" then why wouldn't they use a diode from a 150 instead?

Peace,
dave

Hmm ok i remember from 1 post that a guy said ( my spartan gives 447 nm cuz it use a 140 diode ( I GUESS I WAS WRONG ! THEN !!!!! )

These laser diodes' specifications state that they run at 445nm. However, in practice they vary a lot (these, maybe 440-450nm for example). They also will lase at a longer wavelength at higher temperature.

CNI likely measured the wavelength of one of their systems to find out the wavelength at which the average diode runs.

Everybody is using/selling the 140s--really why would I lie??

And I will pay you back the loan from my tax return.

The check is in the mail.

WL used the 140s??? mmmmm

IF you want a 140 , better get it from one of our trusted members.

A copy of a dated invoice should clear up any doubts.

IIRC the 130s are not too easy to find now and they are not making new ones.

Dave do you think that these Chinese manufacturers are buying projectors and removing the diodes? This is something I have always wondered. It seems like a very odd business practice.

My sources say that this is the only way to get them--BTW IIRC the diodes are made in S Korea and the projectors are not sold in China--so how else do they get them?? Those little diodes do a LOT of traveling before they become china-made 445 handhelds in the USA.

AFAIK all WL 130 diodes(the only ones they used) come from USA purchased projectors. Makes you wonder what happened to all the MT projectors!!

Yep. Ca$hipo owns the diode runs right now. It is the only place to get them ;) Of course they are ordering more than one at a time

The 130 is simply being replaced by the 135. The array is still rated at 2000 lumen. There are many more "models" than just the 130, 140, 150

(130, 135, 230, 235, etc)

I'd be willing to bet that some third party organization ordering and taking apart projectors, making an enormous profit selling them to Chinese manufacturers.

Who would they do that when it is cheaper to do it themselves?

Unskilled Chinese women work for pennies. The average annual income in China is about $4,000. For a 40 hour work week that would work out to about $2 an hour for the national average. These unskilled "factory workers" earn well below the national average.

I will take that bet.

The Chinese will not pay enough to call it an 'enormous profit'

For harvested-& tested a-140 diodes the MOST they will pay is ~45$ each.

I know of several that have sold to 'them' and there was no 'party' just a harvest/test/ and shipping them off.

After figuring the labor and expenses to ship the profit is not exactly what I would call enormous.
