A Unique Request...maybe?

Hey, even I haven't gotten into monster builds yet, although by favourite lasers right now are my 473nm 45mW labby, 300+mW 532 PL-E Pro, and my 2-9mW 593.5 CNI pen. Bright beams and pretty colours, haha

Nice! You've got quite the collection. Did you follow any tutorials or use any kits for your first build? How did it go?

Gota start somewhere! Thanks for sharing that. I may look into just to familiarize myself with the process.
 
To burn a bug at a distance is going to require about a 2000mW laser at a minimum so that is a class IV laser which means you are going to have to be very careful about reflections. A fraction of a second reflection to you eyes off of a shiny item can cause great harm. Plus the dot on a white wall is going to be really, really bright.
Don't mean to rain on your parade but it just is not very safe to do.
Goggle - fruit fly trap. They work great and can be baited with fruit, wine, apple cider or apple vinegar.

If you want to kill flying bugs, I would get a Bug-A-Salt gun and shoot them with that. They work pretty well, are fun to use, and there's no danger of blinding yourself (with light).

These hobby lasers can burn stuff, but it's actually a pain to hit something small like a bug. Any laser that's going to fry a bug in the time it takes to kill it before it moves will also fry your environment. I would stick to the salt and just get a laser to enjoy the beam and other cool stuff is a safe and protected manner.
 
You guys are right about the danger part, and them scurrying away before burning can be achieved. I did consider a burning red laser since the bugs are so small and also incapable of seeing red light, but hadn't looked into the details too much. Thanks for all the input and advice! It's gona be a while before I feel comfortable building a laser capable of burning anything, let alone tiny pests, so I may move my efforts in another direction. Thanks again!

Thanks for linking that thread! There's more plain info there than I was able to get my hands on so far. Looks like that's exactly what I need to get started with the hobby. You guys are awesome.
