Have you measured IR content? Also nice pointer. Also would you mind giving the
Link of the amazon pointers :p?

Took a look at mine using an ophir but I don't have graphing capabilities yet.
I would say that mine ran close to that. After about 60 seconds, it sat for the next 40 at 135mw with almost no fluctuations at all. Didn't test past 100 seconds as the manual says 100 seconds with a 30 second rest. Used lithiums that read 1.56 volts. Room temp was 74F.
Can't stand testing the 532s as you never know what surprises you're in for:rolleyes:

This is the first time I have seen graphs for one of the ebay/amazon "5mW" lasers. Thanks for posting them!
The performance was actually interesting to see over a time period and it actually looks rather stable after a while. I would have expected the performance to decrease linearly but it looks pretty good, especially at its output power for a "5mW" laser :)

hey there!

I think the skylaser is getting way more current to get higher output. The counterside of that is that it heat up quickly and stuff like crystals heat up more quickly which causes fluctuations. Therefore making it harder to make high powered pens.

That is what i think causes the power from the skylaser to drop and the cheap pen being stable. Also note that the batteries you used may not keep up with the skylaser unit. I only use duracells in it. Those are expensive but also the best. And the really high powered pens should not be used for longer then 2 minutes in a row. if you like long stable duty cycles you should get a bigger host :) You do not want to get your laser to be too hot because it can damage the innards.

For a better comparison i think you should order a 50mW skylaser which typically overspecs at 80-90 mW and then compare it to the ebay pen. They are in a different league
